.NET is widely used in europe and the only reason I am a .NET developer is because I work for european companies as a freelancer/on contract and I hack windows. In india, it is not common to find a product based company with .NET but desktop applications are mostly done in .NET especially for windows. The situation is getting better as european companies are making their way to India.

Indian companies are more likely to build on top of python, javascript and java (only once they go big). Even PHP is quite common here. The reason is simple, python, javascript are easy to learn and python and java are taught in colleges. So developers are available in abundance. If you are a game developer, all jobs need C# and/or C++ with unity or unreal.

I use .net for writing api's using asp.net web api. I am little bit confused whether should I switch to java. I have 1.5 years of experience

Depends on your job. if you are working and your job is going fine, stick with C#, if you are getting an offer for java, move to java. Both are similar and jumping is quite easy.
