Career guidance

I have been a technical consultant for more than 14 years and have been playing a lead role for the last 7 years. I am uncertain about which role to pursue in the future. I'm torn between choosing a path to becoming a manager or continuing to work in technical roles. I've tried switching jobs, but the expectations outside are intimidating to me. Have you ever experienced anything similar to what I am going through? Please advise.
