here is a question, with the current layoff situation peaking cross places, in the eventuality that a company decides to let you go, is it their benovalence that they expect you to not work in your notice period or is it that they are obligated to do so?
to add context: 1 they ask you to put in your papers 2. they also offer you to continue post notice on contract (but you are obviously bumped enough to not work there!)
what is it that one can do to get off the work from day 1 of notice period?

If a company lays you off, they don't ask you to serve the notice period. They pay you the notice period salary and your last date is usually the same date.

Lwd is the date they laid off. Payout date is usually the month end but this may vary. This is for people who are completely being let go, in your case since the company is asking you to work on a contractual basis things might be different
