Curious - Salary increment

For Software engineers with 7/8 years of experience or access to relevant data points, can someone tell me the following:

Pay structure and salary increment in 2016-2019 cycle vs 2019-2023 cycle

I have a feeling that a lot of SEs here have an inherent sense of entitlement, that they deserve a salary X / WFH / other covid perks... which is primarily pegged to the madness of 2020-22, where they were getting abnormal salary increments. My hypothesis is that they are still better off in 2019-23 cycle vs 2016-19 cycle.

Thoughts?

Covid brought ton of un certainties where every business thought it can be tech company where only having good tech can solve all of their company problems Which is not the case for all companies eg : Edtech, ops companies tech can be enabler for these companies but tech alone cant solve all problems
Its different for companies who are building tech products eg: New relic, postman, etc

So the demand was higher for tech people during later period which companies are/will realize soon/later and then take decision result of which we are seeing huge correction in salaries in industry as well

To answer your original Qs 16-19 was not crazy hikes and stuffs where companies were willing to go to any extent for candidates to join them which is also normalising now

Don't worry when the layoff cycle is in full swing next year, people will offer themselves to work 12 hours a day in office, 6 days a week at 30% less than their previous salary. If they don't there are multiple others who will.

How do I know? there are atleast 10 of them from my previous startups who are entitled as such and lost their jobs. And send me LinkedIn invites for referral. And I have shown them my middle finger
