Employer can know who is my prev employer?

Got laid off and had to join a shitty company. If I get a job in other company, I don’t plan to mention my present company as my last working job. Is that fine? Would they by any chance track previous employer through pf or tax?

Yes. People get fired if they lie on their resume and if it gets later caught by doing a epf check
