Have a career break of 6 Months (& counting), Request your guidance.

I worked as a SWE for 2.5 years at an Indian MNC, I honestly didn't like the project as my daily work used to on a legacy technology, My manager never approved me (or anyone for that matter) to move to a different project with good tech stack and challenging workspace. So, resignation was my only choice without any backup offer, which I chose and later I unfortunately had to undergo a surgery, My doctor had advised me to take 3 months break from everything and stay home. It's been 6 monts since I left my job, currently I am revising the concepts of Java (Core & Advanced), SQL, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap along with Spring Boot. My problem is do recruiters consider my profile, even if I get an opportunity, do recruiters consider my salary negotiation, and does my career break affect the hiring process? Please guide me. Thank you in advance!

hey buddy, i took a break of 9 months for CAT. I got a job with 50% hike. Don't worry, stay positive. I started applying since jan and got calls from mid jan. I had applied over 600+ applications. Got calls from 30-40, got chance to interview for 10 companies and selected in 3. So be positive, market is hard, u will have to work hard to get calls. But gap isn't the reason for not getting calls. Let me tell you how to get calls. I have 1.5 years in angular with tcs. But i learn java, springboot sql too. So wherever applicable i applied. My dsa and all that stuff is not good, as i had decided to pursue management. That's the story for another day. Yeah, so i used linkedin day and night. Hit easy apply within minutes of job posted. I observed that first 15 applications might have chance to get call from recruiters. Sometimes got calls through career websites of companies, staffing agencies like optimhire. Naukri is a good platform, update your info there. Put immediate joiner, ur tech stack in both linkedin and naukri. Keep updating naukri everyday, so that ur profile shows on top for recruiters ( change spaces or something like that). Ohh and referal works like a charm ✌️

remember getting call is important and then sell your story. They used go get impress when i told them about my CAT ambitions ...make a story of ur health and sell it...Ask me if u need something more

Hi, I had taken a 5 mos break. And I got a good hike post that.

If your reasons are genuine then recruiters won’t mind. Also never say bad things about your previous company and manager. Stance should be more like fault is with me and not you.

It’s good to brush up skills.

Good luck.

I took a break of 6 months and got more than 100% hike. Thats because I was severely underpaid at my old job.

HR folks will try to undermine you to bring down the number, dont bend. 6 months is very insignificant time. You stick to your expected number (not a range), talking about how thats the market value.

Good luck.
