How is analytics role at Slice vs PhonePe for 1yr exp?
I want to refer my younger brother to Slice or PhonePe for Analytics role. He is from BITS Pilani, and working at Groww for past 1+year and very smart. He wants to join Slice or PhonePe only. Can someone share any opinions on learning, growth, culture etc for these 2 companies? Also any other fintech he should target?
PhonePe is definitely hard to recommend. There are teams that are just sitting on working on products for months (and years) that'll never see the light of day. It's also too much a big company now with all the downsides of one.
Slice has been hiring a lot ever since they bagged their last funding and they seem to have a steady business going on thanks to the huge customer base they have acquired over the years.
Not sure of who to target but definitely avoid: Simpl, Snapmint, Uni.
Analysts have had very different work experiences in slice.
The team manager, Nikhil, is a great guy, but stakeholders are not so.
Half of the analysts work with the risk team and 'self-obsessed megalomaniac' is a mild way to describe the CRO, and the toxicity trickles down towards the team. A large part of the remaining have Bizops as the key stakeholders, and you already know quite a bit about them 😉.
As for PhonePe, recently a friend joined, and she didn't have great things to say either.
Moving from one startup to another voluntarily isn't a great thing to do at the moment.
Why every slice employee hates CRO and managers.
I thought I was the only one hating her 😂
@Deadshot99 , you should ask Data Scientists and Analysts working with her team. The hatred for the risk team is relatively contained because they don't work with too many people.
Lol does ur bro even have an offer from these companies? Analytics doesn't pay well so u can think after getting an offer lmao
I have friends for referrals. So that’s not the problem.
Question: ‘Analytics doesn’t pay well?’ in Slice or PhonePe?
Yes ,there are 2 roles,if u are a core data scientist then u can earn even more than sde at same level but analyst/risk analyst/business analyst, these roles have almost half the salary of core ds /sde at the same level Analytics doesn't pay well anywhere at 1 yoe 3-4yoe might make well but lesser than machine learning engineer/data scientist/sde at same level anyday I mean who would pay for SQL,Excel, python, bumpy, pandas and dashboard building lol
What does your research says about Slice and PhonePe dude.?
Mixed opinions.. PhonePe has built a good brandname, have systems in place and product seems to be very much stable and with IPO scene makes it lucrative. But recently have been receiving some negative feedback’s on their restructuring and leadership so a bit concerned given now learning might get restricted for someone who is starting their career
Slice seems to be on an uptick trajectory and couple of analytics people I have worked with seems to be very smart and have shared very positive reviews on the team and leadership and similar feedback I have received from couple of sde 2 and 3 also who has been here for more than a year now.. But unsure will it continue this way and how can I benchmark this if comparing to Analytics functions from other fintechs or similar startups..
Go for Slice. Good luck dont forget to update this thread after 3 months
