I'm Rahul Krishnan, Founder of Bold Care. Ask me anything!

Hey Grapevine,

I’m Rahul Krishnan, Founder of Bold Care, the #1 men’s sexual wellness brand in India (yes, I said it).

I’m pumped to chat with you about my journey—from smashing taboos to getting Ranveer Singh on board as co-founder, and yeah, bringing Johnny Sins from internet to Indian TV (you’re welcome). Whether you want to know how to build a D2C brand that actually scales, my secrets to viral marketing, I’m here for it all.

Ask me anything (except for OTPs) - I'll be back at 7 PM to drop some truth bombs!

P.S. Got some killer stories lined up — interrogate me, I'll give nothing but the truth :)

@jinyang thankfully my parents were pretty chill about it, all of our parents actually. I was working in Chennai and my parents were visiting for a wedding when I told them and their first question was if I was going to do this part time to quit my well paying job lol

Hey @RahulKrishnan, Big fan of your brand and the crazy ads that you do (Ht to Tanmay Bhat for the Johnny sins one) and viral tweets on X.
Few questions for you -

  1. Why did you decide you wanted to take up sexual wellness as a problem to solve? What did you see around you that made you think of this?
  2. Any plans to focus on women's sexual wellness as well? If not, why? It's not mainstream right now in India (atleast not at Bold Care's level). And what was your reasoning to start with men's sexual wellness products than women's?
  3. What are the top 3 problems you are solving now for your brand? Why are you excited about it?
  4. How did you convince Ranveer Singh to get onboarded with this idea and what made you think of him in the 1st place?

@jake_peralta_B99

  1. We were working on a hyperlocal startup called Remedi, sometime in 2014ish. When we were doing that, almost 25-30% of our orders were for sexual wellness products. While that didn't work out, when we started thinking about problem statements to solve, we explored this first and spoke to a lot of andrologists who told us how many people have faced some sexual health issue in their life.

We just built around it and here we are!

  1. We started with men's sexual wellness because it would've been easier to build a brand because we will be able to think of brand positioning POVs quickly. What messaging, what brand tonality would work, all of that would be a lot simpler for us. Solving for men is a tougher problem statement to solve for, primarily because men don't openly talk about a lot of issues that they're going through.

  2. There's too many problems that need to be solved and they're all top priority xD And the fact that there are so many problems to solve that excites me the most, each problem solved is a dopamine hit.

  3. Collective Artists Network played a huge role in making in happen, we were in touch with them to explore this route and they facilitated the entire conversation. Working with Ranveer was a slam dunk because he vibed perfectly with the vision we had for the brand and for the issues we were trying to solve.

Hey @RahulKrishnan
I’m @salt the OG grapeviner

Wanted to ask you a couple of questions:

  1. Would you consider expanding to self pleasure products soon? Considering that it may potentially have a wider demographic reach?

  2. What are your thoughts on MyMuse? I have found their offerings to appeal to a different audience than yours but I feel the space a quite similar.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Also cheers on the Sins Ad. Not gonna lie, I shared it with the Missus and we both loved it hahaha.

  1. Would you consider expanding to self pleasure products soon? Considering that it may potentially have a wider demographic reach? We haven't really thought about expanding to self pleasure products yet. I think a few brands in the space are doing a very good job, and the opportunity is massive.

  2. What are your thoughts on MyMuse? I have found their offerings to appeal to a different audience than yours but I feel the space a quite similar. I really like MyMuse's branding and content, they've been able to build a nice community on Instagram with educational and fun content.

Hey Rahul! Welcome to Grapevine :)

When I think of Durex, my top of mind association with it is of "a reliable brand" more than anything which is absolutely critical in this category. While BoldCare has caught our attention, how do you get people to trust you guys more and ditch the legacy brand- where one stands to lose a lot even with a "trial"

WobblyDumpling
WobblyDumpling

@MomSaidNo you're absolutely right, this space needs a legit, reliable, and trustworthy brand. To that end, we ensure that in all advertising, we stay away from misleading claims. We could've easily launched a product that doesn't work but promises to make the penis bigger and sold a ton of it, but that wouldn't really work. Not making claims like this is the first step imo.

None of our packaging will ever have crass, sleazy, or graphic imagery - I think this is another factor that inspires enough confidence for someone to try out the products. Once they try the products - it works for them, and they stick around :)

Hey BoldCare people

Just wanted to say - great product. I say this for 2 reasons:

  1. the packaging for the 3 condom pack was thin and not cheap like other brands
  2. the packet contained a bag one can use to dispose the condoms safely

Very smart

@backhand Thank you! I love the disposal bag too, makes it so easy!
