If you have money, leave India [non-political]

For those thinking if you have money, should you stay in India or move abroad, here are my two cents on this.

People here know that I am a big believer in the India Growth story. The economic outlook today is much better than 10 years ago and extrapolating that makes it a great opportunity for the rest of us.

Let’s say you are operating as a free agent, and look at things logically and without emotions. ( Why without emotions? Because emotions trump logic and will make you rationalize any illogical move)

I have to accept that however great my country is, it isn’t great at everything. It could have the best mangoes but not the best wines and so on. This also applies to jobs, education and living.

If you want to study mechanical engineering you go to Germany. For best B-Schools, you go to either EU/UK/US depending on what you want to achieve after that. Similarly the best CS programmes are in the US.

Sure, IITs and IIMs are gems and punch above their weight. They have access to the most meritorious kids of that generation. But you have to accept that, they are certainly not at the same level as M7/Oxbridge or Stanford/MIT for Engg.

The same expands to other things. In some ways, every country is chasing the same American standard of living for its citizens. This may or may not be possible for everyone in this world.

So, if you are an individual and you eliminated every generational curse in your life for a moment. Then, you eliminated every constraint in your life. What would you choose to do?

An intelligent answer is always: The best places for vacations The best places for food The best places to work The best places to study The best places to appreciate art The best places for X.

And be okay with accepting that not all best places can be India. Not all best places have to be India. And it’s okay. We can get there.

But if you have money, leave India to experience the best in X.

Converting Euro to INR pay is misleading. It’s still a great salary in Europe but it’s the same as earning 2.2 Cr in India

It’s not the same*

Yes it’s misleading but accurate. I agree that adjusted for PPP it’s 2.2cr

Need can be fulfilled not greed.

Even people living in usa and eu are unhappy.

It's very hypothetical to extrapolate something and reach at a conclusion.

I believe if someone is happy at a village in India is same as someone earning 70lpa in Dubai or a PM at San Diego earning 3cr or A chip designer earning 2.9cr at Amsterdam.

It's all in our mind!

I completely agree. That’s why you choose the best for everything when you can

Give it 10yrs for SEA emigration to spoil western countries. Everything will be same at the end

Could be. Then, there will be other hubs.

See point is simple, we have got one life, so we should make the most of the it, in best possible way. Doesn’t matter if it means going to US or Mars, or Neptune; one should go anywhere the hell one can, to make the best of one’s life and the opportunities. And certainly, western countries provide better opportunities, better lifestyle, better standard of living.

Very well articulated and written. I totally agree, if one have money, and no constraints, strive for excellence or best is a good endgoal.

Having said that, it’s important to note that that every country has its flaws, whether it’s India, the U.S., or UK/EU. No place is perfect, and each country has its own challenges, whether in terms of healthcare, economic disparities, social issues, or bureaucracy.

It’s about trade-offs. What matters most is knowing what you’re willing to adapt to and what you consider essential for a fulfilling life

I completely agree with what you said. Completely echo this.
