Interview Assignment scam?
A mobile based browser company gave an assignment to build a youtube video to mp3 converter. One thing I noticed is that they didn't have this feature already in their app.
Do you guys think it's a genuine assignment or just a way to get work done taking advantage of the current market scenario?
scam 60%
Why and how 60%?
I have the same question
It could be. Ideally, a company should give an assignment on some universal problem statement that is totally unrelated to their business. It can also be a feature that's already implemented by the company. I think that works because then you are sure that they already built it and you can compare their approach and your approach.
If you still want to go ahead with the process, you can do the assignment and then ask to present the demo over a call. You may explain the code in the call but do not give access to the codebase. Perhaps, it would be best to clarify these terms and conditions before proceeding with the assignment.
Hi, they do not have that feature implemented. They also asked specifically to not make the code public. Overall this gives me very sus vibes and obviously I will not be doing this assignment.
Also, thank you very much for your input 😊
Well, I'd sound like a pessimist but in my experience most of the time specific assignments have turned out nightmarish.
Having worked at a unicorn, I've seen folks take advantage of the gullibility of folks by giving assignments specific to problems they are working on, only as a way to get ideas on the table and implement them.
So it's better to get clarification and take a calculated bet, in the current market this has been more rampant given the desperation of folks trying to score a job. I've had instances personally where my entire work product was taken and developed into a whole new line of ops
Hi thank you for your inputs, it helps a lot :)
