Sharing my experience: I am a founder of a small startup where I am the only employee. Recently, I received an offer from a head of another start up asking for money in return for work. I immediately refused due to business ethics. I work in life sciences sector. Sad that people curse politicians and they themselves stoop to lows for money.
Unfortunately kick backs are common (not as common as govt.) . If you are in position to decide you will get offered kick backs easily in India.
There are many famous cases of kick backs in procurement and recruitment in private sector in India. It becomes more acute if there is no differentiator between various competitors.
Unfortunately in India we don't see illegitimate wealth as an issue but as a proof of how smart the person is as long as they are not caught.
This is more than common. It not just restricted to startups but big ones too. More prevalent in manufacturing. The kickback size is different, that's all.
It will be an interesting thread to discuss most innovative way of taking a kick back.

This is unfortunately very common. As common as govt sector considering there are checks and bounds on private companies. You'll be surprised to know the brazenness of folks. I had a R&R startup long back. To get to meet and convince HR heads of large service companies to try out the new software needed a lot of "convincing". We head their subordinates come and tell us what their bosses like, similar to how it works in governments.
Transport departments are another set of plum positions. Transport Companies go out of the way to woo companies.

Name and shame them! Simple. They wouldn't dare repeat it with any other founder again
