I think it boils down to hard work, understanding things, being proactive and understanding the expectations well. I created a video on this sometime ago https://youtu.be/MGVsEEISmSE?feature=shared

  1. You are paid for the value you add to the company. Don't spend time over optimising code. Find the right balance between time and code quality
  2. Take ownership and see the big picture. Knowing what the end product will look like helps u take decisions among various tradeoffs (both HLD and LLD). Seeing the big picture also keeps u motivated to build the product.
  3. Help your manager help you
  4. Learn to be vocal and put ur points across without sounding like a know-it-all. Showcasing that u want to contribute is important. But make sure u do the actual work too else you will lose ur credibility.
  5. You have limited time and energy. Choose the battles you want to fight

@SadLocust covered most of it. I’ll add one more to that.
Be professional with your team members. Don’t overshare. You may find one person who is genuinely close to you. Except him/her, trust no one with your personal information. It’s a snake nest.
