MBA Placement
Like in engineering colleges companies set cgpa cutoff, do companies in top MBA college also set any bar for previous academics apart from current CGPA?
In MBA academics do matter if you are looking to get into top tier Consulting (MBB) or leading IB , Finance roles. Rest of the domains your academics don't matter. Even in the final resume you can't add your CGPA the company doesn't know how much CGPA you have. But I was told the placecomm prepares a list of 10 top percentile students for Marque companies who need good grades. So it all depends on the domain you want to get in if you want to go into Marketing, Operations grades don't matter at all
If someone wants a consulting or finance role, what should be the academic profile. Mine is 9/7/6
See you can do whatever you want after some amount of work experience grades don't matter , but for clg placement getting into MBB with that profile would be difficult , you can try for big 4 and then switch to MBB that's always an option. But at the end of the day MBA placements are a game of luck , no one knows where he/she gonna get placed 😂
Depends. Generally startups and small companies don't care about CGPA. But some specifically ask for 1st year cgpa during final placements. Some even just use your undergrad cgpa as a shortlist criteria even though it has nothing to do with your MBA. But those are rare. Generally you want to keep a high CGPA in MBA so you can always get away with lower marks in undergrad by saying I was a little shit back then but now I have grown up and working hard

Where are you targeting? I kinda have a similar profile
Most people who I talked to told me to gain some work experience then apply for CAT
@BlondDune99 I see. I'm also aiming for workex first.
They matter a lot, to an extent. When placecom reps send profile sheets of the applicant/batch pool, the companies do tend to use CGPA as a means to filter through the list, amongst other factors such as work ex, undergrad college, etc.
This is even before resumes being glanced upon in many cases.
For non-Tier 1 schools, companies tend to use profile sheets simply to decide if they want to hire from a certain B-school or not.

I am not completely sure about finance roles but MBB's do look for good acads, say 8/8/8 as a base, since they expect students scoring well in acads being the bare minimum, aside of career spikes along the way but the latter might help you tip the balance somehow.
