Need Advice on Microsoft IGD Offer: How Does It Compare to IDC?

Hi everyone,

I recently got an offer from Microsoft IGD (Microsoft global service center), and as you can imagine, I am both excited and a little uncertain. This is great opportunity, but after doing some research, I have noticed a lot of conversations comparing IGD to IDC (India Development Center). Both are part of Microsoft family, but it seems like they have there own distinct identities, cultures, and even reputations.

Here’s where I could really use some guidance from anyone whom been in either of these groups or even both.

• Work Environment & Culture: Is the work culture in IGD as dynamic and innovative as IDC? I've heard IDC is known for high-profile projects and cutting-edge tech. Does IGD offer similar growth opportunities and exciting work?

• Recognition & Stability: One of my concerns is whether IGD carries the same weight internally as IDC. Does IGD have the same long-term stability and reputation for innovation within Microsoft? How is career progression there compared to IDC?

• Work-Life Balance: I've also come across mixed reviews regarding the work-life balance in IGD. Any real-world experiences would be really helpful to know what to expect.

• Any Other Insights: Lastly, are there any specific pros or cons about working in IGD vs IDC that might not be immediately obvious but are important to know before making a decision?

I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts or experiences. I want to make sure I'm stepping into the right place, and your advice could make a huge difference in my decision!

Thanks a lot!

I think IGD only is called MSIT too? (MS IT Vs MS IDC). I think there is huge difference between the two, one is a consultancy like role (similar to service based companies work), and the other one - IDC-is what is the core product based roles. The first one has designations like "Consultant", the second one has designations like "SDE". And needless to say, their package too varies greatly. But I have never worked with Microsoft. I have been told this by friends working there.
