Obsession with IITs is overhyped

I can say that the obsession with IITs is definitely overhyped. Don't get me wrong, IITs are great institutions with some of the brightest minds, but the way they are glorified is just too much.

First of all, the pressure on students to get into an IIT is insane. From a young age, kids are pushed into coaching classes, sacrificing their childhoods and other interests just to crack the JEE. It's like if you don't get into an IIT, you're considered a failure, which is just ridiculous. There are so many other good colleges in India and abroad that offer quality education and opportunities.

In my experience, I've worked with people from various educational backgrounds, and honestly, the college you went to doesn't define your capabilities or success. I've seen non-IITians outperform IITians in the workplace because at the end of the day, it's your skills, attitude, and work ethic that matter. The IIT tag might give you a head start, but it doesn't guarantee long-term success.

Moreover, this obsession creates a toxic environment where students are constantly competing against each other rather than collaborating. It also leads to a lot of stress and mental health issues, which is something we don't talk about enough. The education system should be about learning and growing, not just about getting into a specail college.

I also feel that this hype around IITs undermines other fields of study. Not everyone wants to be an engineer, and that's perfectly fine. We need to value and encourage diverse career paths, whether it's in the arts, humanities, social sciences, or vocational training. Every profession has its own importance and contributes to society in different ways.

In conclusion, while IITs are prestigious institutions, the obsession with them is definitely overhyped. We need to broaden our perspective and appreciate the diverse talents and potential that exist beyond the IITs. Let's focus on creating a more inclusive and supportive education system that values all kinds of achievements and aspirations.

Did't read at all but came by cause of the photo. The dumbbells in this photo reminded me that I had a couple of sets somewhere in my home. Took a while to search but found them. Lol. Will work out with them from tomorrow.

Even though it's a perfect example of Whataboutery, we should focus our attention towards UPSC and how it's killing people's careers and making them unemployable. Even if people get rejected by IITs, then go to decent colleges and start from scratch with a fire to prove "IIT entitlement" wrong. And they waste only a year of their lives (if they decide to repeat). For UPSC, it's 6 years (max), post college. Quite a few people leave their (well-paying) jobs and gamble away their employability.

Also, dude there are IITs like IIT Bhilai. No one who gets into IIT Bhilai is considered a success

It is going to be an extremely unpopular opinion, but the IIT brand has been diluted to nothing by reservations. There are still few rockstar IITians who standout, but they are far and few now

Why are IITians so entitled and fragile about this tag??

Genuine question. No hate. I've seen a lot of people from particular colleges, treating others like they're nothing. We respect your hustle of getting into a college a lot of people can't . But can you chill out now???

The effort put into to get that tag is huge. If you are an general category person, then it is no less than super hum...
