Man, I never hand time for hands-on learning curve in ProdMan. I would get PiP'd or Laid Off till I could get to the "Ah! This is your plan and how you are here after all these fuck ups" part.
It is always balls to wall tactical deployment. Always.
It's simply how you as a young blood execute your task and analytics to make sure your decision make money. That's it. You'll surpass a Project Manager based on how you perceive the field. Blabber, Jargon and everything don't help if it doesn't solve.
