Worst part of being an APM is to get a bad PM as a manager who only does project management and doesn't take or care about your inputs. The project managers who dont understand anything about product management and clear interviews based on their sheer blabbering skills, jargon and experience but think they are the be all and end all of everything.

It is important to get bad managers as APM so you can quit be the Good PM people need.

Man, I never hand time for hands-on learning curve in ProdMan. I would get PiP'd or Laid Off till I could get to the "Ah! This is your plan and how you are here after all these fuck ups" part.
It is always balls to wall tactical deployment. Always.
It's simply how you as a young blood execute your task and analytics to make sure your decision make money. That's it. You'll surpass a Project Manager based on how you perceive the field. Blabber, Jargon and everything don't help if it doesn't solve.
Be the PM you want to be, always. I wish you luck. We in the same boat.
