Quick question

Why do you think Gukesh is dumb enough to pay tax in India?

He is a very well travelled chess player, and plays many tournaments outside India. He can easily ensure he stays less than 182 days in India.

Have any of the people who make such memes done enough research on this?

I don't think he will do that. He kinda looks to me who doesn't care about money, he looks more of emotion based person. He has won a WCT for india . Also for himself. But again he told in one interview that he wants to bring back WCT trophy after vishy sir for India. So it would not seem right for not paying taxes in india and winning award for india. Like I also understand your point being why should anyone pay taxes when anyone wins awards for a pride of a country, for that we need new income tax changes bro

No, my point is - He should pay taxes for Income in India. Why should he pay taxes for income outside India? It's an event in Singapore. Keep your hands off the prize money.

And this isn't cheating. It's called financial prudence.

If an Indian brand sponsors him, sure take a third. If he wins a tournament in Poland, keep your f*cking hands off.

Got it. I read about this law and got to know if he manages to stay less than 182 days. He don't need to pay taxes for international income otherwise he has to .

"You are treated as a resident if you satisfy either of the following conditions:

You are in India for 182 days or more in a financial year.

You are in India for 60 days or more in a financial year and for 365 days or more in the preceding 4 financial years.

Exception: The 60-day rule is extended to 182 days if you are an Indian citizen leaving for employment abroad or visiting India as an NRI. "

I think Playing tournaments will be considered as employment. As I think players are paid for playing tournament. So in that case he has stay less than 182 days

Is this how cricketers avoid tax too?

Yes, there are ways to avoid your global income getting taxed. NRIs don't get taxed on their Global income. MSD is not dumb to become a pharmer in Dubai.

On global income...
If you read my comments as well, I have stated Indian income he has to pay taxes. No clean way around it. But world championship is global income.
