Rampant negativity at Yubi

Hi , this post is intended to be a disclaimer to anyone who is planning to join Yubi. A lot of things are happening here that show some signs of an impending layoff

  1. Several senior folks in tech and product have quit. Also there is no replacement hiring planned for them. Several projects are also getting shelved as a result.

  2. there were several open roles a few weeks back and almost all of them are on hold as of now across all depts( tech , business , ops)

  3. rampant cost cutting. The lunch options have been reduced to just 1 dal , 1 veg , rice and chapati. Snacks have been removed too.

Because of several folks quitting in less than 6 months and no replacement hiring , load has increased tremendously on existing members who are themselves trying to leave.

People have serious doubts on whether any hike or bonus will be given or not this year.

@Shiawase Are you broke man not having money for the next meal? If a company stops providing food does it mean or indicate layoff? After getting ctv of 30 to 40 lpa can't you even afford to buy a single meal and you are expecting company to do everything? I am seriously wondering how company is running with people in like you? Dude how many seniors folks have left do you have a count huh? Do you see project is shelved? If food is reduced and you have some shitty points can you post anything? Do you see when good food was provided how much wastage happened? I have no words but to feel pity people like you exist

Another sign company is in trouble. Management sending their stooges to cover up. If any of you have any doubt, just talk to any ex employee at yubi, they will tell you truth. I thought fake reviews stopped at Glassdoor

I pray two layoffs happen at company soon you and Shiawase

Since one of the comments have been deleted by a company stooge after I responded to this post with Facts. I will post them again here

  1. CXO level exits have happened despite what people have posted. Shubham jain was CBO of real estate product but he left and now that product has been shelved. OCS has also been shelved away. Ther have been senior product exits from SCF and so that product team also seems a dicey place to be in .

  2. These 2 can be validated by checking the Jira board as well.

  3. revenue targets have not been met again so whatever break even/ profitability point you read, please take it with a pinch of salt

  4. Stooges have been posting that CEO has mentioned that there will be no layoffs. No CEO mentions layoff untill the final moment that they do. Again, nowhere have I mentioned that layoffs are 100% guaranteed. I have just mentioned that there are several signs that they might happen, so in case someone is planning to join, they should be well aware.

  5. Have heard today that several people in HR org are also being "let" go.One of the directors ( Mr. J ) has also left

  6. they are planning to phase out slack also to cut costs. Some people have noticed but ACs are also being switched off frequently to save costs. Have already mentioned about the food situation. In such a scenario, I don't see why wfh should not be given to all. No point calling people to office and expecting same performance with subpar conditions. CEO hasn't even mentioned that they will be reducing cost in the short term but things will improve down the line. Just silent cost cutting everywhere.

I have been at the firm for a bit more than a yr now, and things are at the worst point ever.

If you have other offers back out immediately. If you're a female and have to join, stay as far as possible from founder - he has had a rather colorful past

Wanted to update this thread based on new developments :

  1. All contract workers have been laid off. Several interns in tech have been given 1 weeks notice and been told their internship is now cancelled. More than half of the remaining interns have been told that they won't recieve PPOs.
  2. A VP of engineering has also left & the chief economist who was hired a few months back has left or been asked to leave.
  3. CEO wants everyone to learn everyone else work. So all engineers have to become full stack and in the sales team everyone needs to learn how to sell each product. Earlier each product had different sales team. If I had to make a guess , I guess this has been done to make people more replaceable and that helps in doing layoffs.
  4. Once of the floors in the Chennai office will no longer be rented. Although this is a good move.
  5. Food situation is still the same. But now you also have to pay for it. I don't mind paying, but they can at least provide better food options in the office. Wish they change the vendor.
  6. No WFH for the entire yr.
  7. in the last townhall it was mentioned that the Senior leadership will take pay cuts.

Quite a tense situation as of now.

Also Several people in the HR's talent acquisition team have been laid off.

This exposes what i mentioned in the thread earlier. There is absolutely no thought/strategy and the founder is trigger happy and surrounded by yes men. It was a single sales team earlier and he created this complicated structure and now back to square one . Chief economist job was doomed from the beginning - noone really understands finance to respect this kind of job. It will be difficult to experience but there is no hope - it is inevitable

Guys, understand there are issues at Yubi currently. However these are part and parcel of life, if you choose to work in a startup. Startups are cults of founders and 99% of startups are not exceptions to this rule. Don't expect 200% transparent decision making in any startup. Many variables go into decision making and it's hard to disclose everything to everyone. Second, almost everyone in a startup is paid higher than counterparts in mature companies and this is for taking the extra stress. No point accepting that initially and cribbing about it on forums. There will be excess spending followed by excess cost cutting. These are all ways of life and i wish those who joined this company had the maturity to be level headed about these things. World is not crashing down since yubi is cutting costs. Sky is not falling if a couple of management folks quit. The ownership and learning , if you happen to join at the right time, compensate for all these minor rumblings. Please add perspective to your comments. Everything is not positive, everything is not bleak either. Cheers

Noone is paid enough to deal with unnecessary pressure Yubi creates and hence it has such high attrition already. Latching onto new trends isn't going to make a successful company. Have you attended the older townhall - it felt like founder was preaching everyone from RBI to Elon Musk. We deserve this

WigglyPickle
WigglyPickle

Just wondering if cost cutting is needed, why aren’t they asking employees for WFH?
Saves so much fixed cost - leasing office space, facilities- food, ac, electricity, etc.

GigglySushi
GigglySushi

Because founder is very stringent on wfo. He has that mentality that unless people are in office, they must be lazing off. But hides this by telling that we want wfo since it promotes creativity, culture and what not :/

WigglyPickle
WigglyPickle

So basically push employees to spend money and waste time to come to office and back, then ask them to spend to eat, then take away any team building budgets, put everyone under pressure, and expect miracles.

Is that how the founder has built 3 companies?
Is the founder dreaming or is the founder dreaming?

@Shiawase if you so bitter just quit already? Are you not finding a cushy job like the one you have now at Yubi where you have all the time in the world to come and populate this thread with non factual stuff only coz you one got one less chapati? You made sense when you started your thread but by now you seem to have lost it all. Peace out.

I don't see Yubi trending anywhere. Layoffs, losses etc are not being picked up by the press. Only this thread sniffs stuff

Check Glassdoor, ambition box or any other company review website. You must be an HR that is why you are so blind.

I had an pathetic interview experience with them where as part of 2nd tech round which was Algo based where interviewer was taking multiple interviews and didn’t explain the problem statement well and within 5 mins while I was still solving the question he mailed the rejection mail . I had my gmail notifications on and while I m solving it in 5 mins the guy sends me rejected mail . I dropped the interview in middle by seeing the mail it was ridiculous as if the guy saw may be my solution is not matching the solution he has printed in front of him. Avoid such companies like plague glad they are in trouble.
