Salary Reflections: Am I Overpaid?

Am I being overpaid? I am a backend engineer with 7 years of experience. I've been rejected by multiple organizations during salary discussions. They mentioned they can't provide such a high salary. Are my expectations inaccurate?

Current CTC: 45 LPA Expected CTC: 54 LPA Designation: Team Lead, Backend

You are definitely over paid i wouldn’t say but earning well and beyond; probably you have a great skillset and talent. 6 times ur work exp is not easy to get anywhere.

Also the higher you are paid, you are at the risk of lay off.
That being said enjoy life! You will reach a fire number wayyy faster than most ppl if u invest smartly. And this is so important later on in ur midlife should you want to take risks in other interests/ explore creating a start up/ business or simply even wanting to pursue some hobbies like travelling etc. money does hit you hard in all walks of life no matter how much one may deny it or try to be humble about it.

Lol increase your perspective brother. Research the market. You think this number is high because you never know someone who's earning this much or you never had the skills/confidence to ask for such numbers.

I don't know what you will say to people earning 13x their years of experience 😂

Not belittling you or anything just saying there are people getting paid more than this even today. Companies are ready to pay for related experience and good skills.

You are belittling so just own it. Dnt hide.
Additionally you are correct.. there is a small percentage which does get 10X and upwards.

We see a lot of folks getting 45ish and 50ish starting from 4/5 years of experience and assume that 7/8 will get 80 and upwards. But that’s not entirely true. The percentage is way less than you think.

To my friend who posted , you are fairly paid and the market is there for you to tap more. Go after product companies .. the chances are higher.

Your salary is a dream for most ppl even with twice your experience.

Bruh you are not overpaid at all. You should ask for more in fact.

Ignore the companies who say they can't afford you. Those companies probably won't have any talented people.

Keep looking until you find the right company 🤘

You can verify the numbers I quote from leetcode or any other sites, at 7 years people do earn 40-50 bade if they are good

My base is 40.

If your current company is paying you 45, you must be good at your work. Search beyond India, you will get better comp

I genuinely think your expectations are right, if not low. For the companies saying the expected CTC is too high that’s their problem. But all good companies pays this amount easily.

My general thumb rule for max CTC vs YoE is
1 year - 10
2 year - 20 And so on….

And for the people saying your expectations is high, please research the market well.!

Please correlate with this data to see how many would be there in that range. Though it has no data profession wise

why are people commenting about the salary being low or high without asking the 'in hand salary", that's what matters most.

I believe your cash component is a major part of your salary, that's the reason you might be getting rejected.

Also the type of companies you are applying to also matters, everyone has their own salary standards.

Yes, you are right. 40 fixed + 5 variable
