Should going to IIMA/B worth it to someone who is IIT passout with 3 years of work experience and have ~50L CTC? Very confused in deciding!!

Very confused and have very less time to finalize

Unless you wanna enter MBB or IB side not worth it. Upside of IB would be ~$0.5M a year in 4-5 years for you.

Yupp thought about that...many said in long term it would be beneficial... 🙁 If goes to IIM then will choose among consulting or product roles. IB is not my type!

I don't think they are in India.

Congrats on the admits. But wouldn't ISB be better at these numbers?

Hardly anyone in ISB makes upwards of 50 post placement, leave alone someone with 3 years workex

B/w IIM ABC vs ISB then are you saying former is better then at this experience or package?

MBAs are garbage, just common sense packaged with tons of jargon. It’s more for networking and signalling

@StrangeSpill can you tell bit more about experience and journey of mba...how much is it worth it, and long term trajectory does iim tag helpful?
Also if you could tell bit about placement scenarios there now?

But there are certain roles which only MBAs can get in right? This is a genuine question btw.

Shouldn't folks with your kind of pay be doing an MBA (if at all) abroad instead of in India? I'm myself curious.

IIM A or B - you might end up being paid the same or slightly more.

TwirlyPretzel

Yes keeping that option as well....as the end of the day ended up in thinking ROI of abroad
2. IIM provide student exchange so with indian rupees you can study abroad for a semester
3. Doing MBA from abroad is like 2years of college +2-3 years of job abroad to recover that amount

SillyDumpling

You are not considering European MBAs -- LBS/Insead/HEC. 1 year of college + 1 year of work to recover your money

Very few touch 50L CTC(domestic) in IIMABC. Check if it’s possible for you to move within the org itself, instead of dedicating 2 years.

Worst feeling would be if you get a lower package post MBA, and not the desired function which you want. This happens! Most of the MBA placements are driven by students. Better to have very good repo with placecom team.

Best option would be actually to give GMAT and get into Ivy League schools. The ROI would be much better, although cost would be equally high. Check out European schools(where most of the courses are a year long).

P.S: cousin got admits from IIMB and C. He has opted for B. Have told him to have a good repo with placecom team. He’s NIT pass out with 2 years experience in DS(less than 10 LPA) package. For him, ROI would be better.

Oppurtunity cost will kill you. If at all you are doing an MBA in India, only ISB will come close to making sense. From a money perspective doesn't make sense either way.

If you want to change fields and move to consulting side then yes… else doing MS makes more sense. Anyways why do you want to go back to college? Your IIT tag already paying well.. 3 years of work experience means you would be one of most experienced student of the batch… most of them would be junior to you

DerpyPickle

Honestly not worth it if it’s money that drives you If you are filled by passion/ changing fields and have a strong reason for it, only then go ahead.

But if it is just too get a second degree that would look cool in your resume, it’s not worth it.

Apart from consulting and IB, all other facets- senior leadership, starting a venture, good pedigree, good network, great money, you have already got those

If you really want to consider MBA, my suggestion would be INSEAD, Ivy leagues because they’d give you a bang for your buck as well as the right exposure.

Also the market conditions are so bad that investing in an MBA India ( that too a 2 year program) right now is sunk cost with little placement opportunities.

Sincerely, an exISB

@CheckBee Thanks for your suggestion! Can you also bit tell about your isb experience and placement scenarios there? Also heard from many there life is too hectic to figure what you want to do?

Also currently in tech side so going abroad for MBA having a lesser chance for shortlist?

No it's not worth it anymore, until n unless your company is offering MBA to their employees
