Story of Middle Class guy from 3.5LPA CTC to 1.2Cr CTC (46Base + 72Esops) in 4 yrs

Started working in 2017 (Graduation: Tier 2 College) in hand salary: 28K per Month. Worked for 2.5yrs, had big dreams, didn’t knew what to do, how do I 10x my salary, saw my manager 40yrs old earning 25LPA in the same company. Realised I don’t want to do this for the next 20yrs and the reach at 25LPA. Started preparing for UPSC (wanted to make it big) realised within 6 months, this is not my cup of tea, appeared for MBA entrance, cleared the exam joined Tier 1 MBA, post MBA: 25LPA + XX Esops in next two years at 1.2Cr CTC inc ESOPs.

Before 2030 plan to achieve FIRE with 8Cr networth. By 2040 make it 100Cr and retire. Chill at beach with beer in hand and two other friends.

What’s your story, do share those goldmine inspirational stories!!

Are you considering 72L esops of razorpay as your own networth? 🤔🤔

ZestyPancake
ZestyPancake

Why not?

😂😂😂 With what is going in the market with the startups and valuations getting reduced, i consider the value of my esops as zero. If they do well in the long term, great. If they actually become zero, well I didn't have any expectations in the 1st place.

Not sure, but I have heard that after ipo, employees may not be able to sell the stocks within 1 yr. Not sure though.

Graduated in 2022 - Tier 2 college but started working part time/long term internships since 2018 and full time since 2021. I'm 2021, I joined at 20k per month CTC with 16,400 in hand. Performed well there and managed to get 45K on my severance. Joined a new company at 50K in 2022, got it bumped to 75K in two months. Then in mid 2023, joined a new place at 1.75L per month.

Now I work with multiple companies as a consultant and make approximately 5 - 5.5L per month (though I'm thinking of dropping a few clients, might come down to 1.5 - 3L per month)

No esops as such so far, unfortunately... I mean, technically I have advisory equity for a company but it's in very initial stages, let's see where it goes!

This is insane bro, can you expand on what you actually do? What is advisory equity?

Are those 72L esops per year?

ZestyPancake
ZestyPancake

Nope thats total that I’ve got.

FuzzyNugget
FuzzyNugget

In that case, your (notional) CTC per year is ~64lpa, not 1.2Cr.

What load of clickbaity post

WobblyNoodle
WobblyNoodle

So true, got clickbaited. Also, I don’t think 72L is per year ESOPs. People need to learn how to calculate yearly compensation first !!

Would've preferred a much better standard of post from a ISB grad

Started in 2018 post MBA from tier 1 college with 7 lpa, all fixed. Worked for 3.5 years in the same organisation. The next switch was at 10 LPA ( all fixed) in Mid 2021. Worked there for 6 months.

Next switch Jan'22 at 20 LPA (18 fixed+ 2 variable).. worked for 2 years, after 1 round of appraisal, CTC was 23 LPA ( 20 fixed+ 3 variable) and 4 lac in ESOP vested till now.

The latest switch was just 2 months back. Current CTC 30 lac fixed + 5 lac variable + 2 lac JB. .

This is not a 1 CR+ story my friends, kudos to those who have been able to achieve it

Started in 2018 with 3.5L salary as a BDA in a huge company. Joined another company in 2019..moved to 8L. Got promoted and salary increased to 12L in 2020. Took an IJP and moved to product as an APM in the same company. Moved to 18L in 2021. Promoted in 2022 as PM. Moved to 25L. Got promoted 6 months back as SPM and moved to 32L. Current valuation is 1.32cr - 32L fixed + 1cr (esops accumulated over 5 years in the company ; 60% vested).
Journey has been super exciting.

Hi, this is really inspiring.
I'm a software engineer with around 6 months of experience and if I wish to switch to product manager in future, what all would be needed from my end to convert into it? (I mean what all I need to make myself learn etc)

Started in 2011 with 13k as monthly salary. Now at 18 LPA ( underpaid ). I don’t need to care for money a lot.

Living quite satisfied life and I feel I am on FIRE stage.

Being an average performer at company, they neither fire me nor offer crazy appraisal and typical WFH, 9 to 6 job. Never worked for more than 7 hours.

I live satisfied life with bigger home than tier1 city guys and the best social life. ( like suraj barjatya movie ).

No need for any loan or insurance. Some investment and saving is more than enough.
