A little unrelated point: I was speaking to a Google executive from India recently and they said two things

  1. We are underpaid here compared to the US counterparts
  2. We are marketing this fact now. We tell our US counterparts now to set up their teams and expand here in India because the pay is low here

1st point we all knew already. 2nd was interesting to note. Tbh I was not surprised. It makes sense for Google India leadership to market their low pay scales and expand the teams here in India.

Everyone has been doing this forever now

Googler are not underpaid in India by any stretch. You might be looking for the words “rightly paid”. There is enough research done by them to actually place engineers in the right band wrt pay.

One can’t compare a direct USD to INR conversion and call it as underpaid. They pay as per the demands and dynamics of the region that an individual works from.

Well deserved pay cut. I know many people were paid premium just because they were US return. IMO, they should be asked to work for food.

There are many deserving paycuts in Indian market as I have seen a comment saying that 80L should be TC for 8 YOE @Qwerty2398

This will be the fate of most Indian students in the US five years from now. The chances of winning H1b is down to 20%

Nope! It's down to less than 5% @Based1776

It is just a horrific market. The tech bros who made LLMs are making their other tech bros obsolete.

It's not the LLMs making engineers obsolete 🤦🏻‍♂️ it's the economy
