
why don't companies do pay cuts instead of lay offs?

Why would a demoralised employee work? Better to have none than have some.

You can upset 10 employees by letting them go or upset 100 by pay cuts.
Bunch of overpaid executives who do nothing but push papers around. Then layoff the people who actually work. Now, all the great people who did not get laidoff will anyway leave in the next 8 months because they dont want to be in a place that can fire people like this. So you get stuck around the B and C players.
Even the CEOs know this and despite that layoff are happening makes me question the actual state of the economy, is there something going on that we are unable to see?

I have been through ups and downs in IT, but these layoffs seem crazy. There is just no pattern to it, more like everyone is firing let me fire.
Honestly I feel its high time Tech companies, Startups take a hard look at their business...
