Walmart SDE-3 promo

Recently Walmart gave promotions to their SDE-2s and afaik they matched the base for all of them to the same number regardless of the performance. But added(or not) 30k in the CTC on the basis of performance.

What do you folks think should more companies do this "Same base for the same level" or should it be performance based?

Variable in this case is 30k which to me seems unfair for different levels of performance

Same base for same level is not ideal I feel. It won't get performers motivated to put the extra level. If even an average performer gets the same CTC it doesn't help. If a company has variable component that can vary by a huge margin then this might work where everyone gets the same base but variable varies on performance. Else if it's a token 30k then it's irrelevant
