What do Frontend devs do in India after 12-14years of work ex?

I have 10years of work ex totally into FE. Outside India, there are a lot of IC roles and Architect roles for Frontend Devs but not the same in India. Wonder what role do they transition to given they have been totally into FE. Moving to Backend doesnt make sense IMO. Manager option is for Backend folks. Almost all the openings I see for Tech Managers, their requirements revolve around backend tech.

I don’t think FrontEnd is going to be over for 10+ years of experience. I am having 11+ years of experience in front end . However over the period of time you would need acquire T shaped knowledge by having one core tech and understanding of end to end application. Also, as you grow having good command over soft skills help you to grow. Expanding your knowledge in user research, user experience, design systems and distributed web apps will be add on and front end is much more than just building layouts.

True but those options get limited in Indian tech industry as everyone wants a donkey tech lead for frontend who would develop features at a 3x rapid pace.

No? SSE to EM is a viable track. In IC, lead, staff and architect roles are also there, although rare in number. Another option is to join smaller organisations. Also could pivot to mobile, or AR/VR/MR.

I checked for 100's EM roles, almost all of them have description for backend roles or devops. Like you said, its way too limited and mostly in Bengaluru city only.
I have an option for moving to Flutter in the current org.
But then, I see very limited requirements in the Mobile world too if I look for next 10years of my career.

I play well with creating JS SDK, libs, TDD, BDD, CI/CD, microfrontend architecture, docker and kunernetics but then again, with frontend profile,
they hardly have any actual requirements once you get past 10yrs of work ex and most orgs dont actually implement these in actual and only on paper in India.

I wonder what all 1000's of FE devs with similar work ex do or will be doing once they get past 12-14years of work ex.

Have you tried applying to these? Mostly for EM+ roles they list anything and everything. Surely some of these will appreciate a deep FE experience. I mean someone must be managing FE teams haha.

Or, perhaps it's time to apply to lead roles abroad!

There are Engineering Manager roles for frontend teams as well, also frontend has handful of Principal Engineer IC roles but these are very limited in count

You are doomed bro. Only handful people are successful with only front end tech in their resume

Whats the way out of it ? Move to Cloud ?
I did Ruby on Rails for 4 years, realised I dont like it, moved to FE.

You could also look at diversifying into UX. I’m assuming that by now your already know a lot of basic design principles, accessibility and maybe even some usability testing.

I have about 14 years of development experience, early career was focused on backed, mid was full stack and now i specialise in front end and UX. For the last 8 years i have been doing both UI development and UX research with some design work as well. At present, I lead a team of designers and developers and a lot of responsibilities overlap with traditional product managers.

I don’t have an answer to this but with AI and how complex frontend has become… Such jobs will be created with high yoe bar.
