I could never understand this madness to have a glimpse of a superstar, who wouldn't even know that you exist or you were there in the millions of people cheering for him/her!
People unabashedly protect their idols, argue, fight, upto the point of own sacrifice (metaphorically and literally, in some cases), bruising their own relationships for the idol who doesn't give a damn!
Why? Why? Why?
Is it some sort of idol worship that evades my senses or is it that people's lives are so vacant, so meaningless that they borrow their credibility by being merged with a superstar who has done some damn things in his/her life?
Personally I feel it's more to do with people being vacant and to have some kind of belonging
How does being fan help in belonging so to say? Belonging to a larger mob/crowd? What kind of satisfaction/happiness does that provide, I wonder!
Long term, this will turn out to be an epidemic!
There is a simple theory behind it.
A human can only thrive in a survival niche which values individuality and collectivist effort.
A visionary/leader/god/idol/ideal is simply a symbolic representation behind which people create a set of rituals to become part of a collective. This is only done so that the people don't feel left out due to their inherent mediocrity, uselessness and lack of individual drive.
Fan Culture is simply cult worship from an atheist perspective. They will exalt a person's cult of personality to the highest pedestal and create a god out of it. The higher your fanaticism and devotion, and higher you are up the pecking order. This would give you a direction which would not exist if not for the cult.
I think it's okay to be fans but idolising them is just too much. Speaking of actors, cricket players and western singers, people who idolise them are just consuming too much of social media content and have nothing better to do than defending them. Why spend so much energy for someone who doesn't even know about your existence? Foolish.
I don’t get it , I understand most of these famous people have achieved extraordinary milestones in their life like Elon musk or Maggie Smith, Michelle Obama, or Warren buffet, through hard work.
But the circumstances each one of us gro...
There's so much Hype about it in Insta and in a friends circle. Can anyone tell me why it is so special ? Is the hype worth it ?
