My theory is quantity of resume received. Applying for a job has become so easy, that for any advt, there are at least 1000 people submitting resume within 2-3 days. It is impossible for the HR to open every resume. So they filter it out. They first pick from the target company they want, then open the first 10-12 resumes. usually they land a candidate within this list.
