is 13 lpa enough?
im a product intern transitioning to APM. Is 13L base a good place to start. I feel its a little too low as everyone seems to be making more than me. I was expecting around 15-18 but market conditions seem bad, should I look for other offers or do y'all think this is a good one Besides comp, work culture is pretty good and the opportunity + room for growth is plenty. FYI this is a seed stage b2b saas startup. help me out with opinions
If you're unsatisfied, ask for more.
If you can't ask for more, look around.
If you can't look around, work hard, and ask for double pay next cycle.
If you don't wanna work hard, shut up and enjoy that 80-90k per month.
Comparing 13 with 15-18 is what I expect from aunties in my colony...it's your first job man what can you do special by getting 30k extra . Focus on the overall picture

@jukisapro dont listen to such advises, always aim for higher pay, ask more, get a raise and then leave for a hike.

I can garranty if you would have get 15, you would say you were expecting 18, if getting 18 expecting 21 getting 21 expecting 24. That's human psychology.

Before I give you gyan, here’s my creds:
PM with 2.5 YOE from a tier 3 college. I started as an APM at the same package as you and now currently at 45LPA base + equity after 2 years.
What you should do?
You won't like it because you already have answer in your mind and you are wanting validation on that answer but here it goes.
Skill up. Let me be upfront, most of the APMs are not truly product people. You'll be doing execution during which you'll learn the craft. Once you learn the craft, people might be willing to pay you. Why? Because product is a domain where experience matters. For this, either become an SME in your company or go to a large conglomerate.
Large conglomerate won't take you because even their APMs have 3 years of experience. So that leaves you with one thing - skill up and become the best SME that your promotion is obvious.
It worked for me so hopefully it would work for you - went from APM to PM in 8 months. Got 2 hikes without asking because I was the SME and it was the 2021-22 employee goldrush. Then switched and got 2x without negotiation just because I knew the shit.
Product management is no more a generalist role. You get paid for your expertise.
if people are earning more than you, then ask your self are you skilled than others first?
For APM it's too much. You have to pan it out to value you deliver. It's high already. Why do you think Product Managers are the first to be fired everywhere?
