There is stuff you will possibly only learn in a college. If that is what you want to, and money is no concern, you should go ahead. But if what you are expecting is a career jump, that may not be the path to take. Masters is helpful, but real world experience holds more value during interviews from what I have seen.

I also have the same confusion...Is doing Masters in HCI from foreign universities really worth it...after spending 1 Cr+ in US in this economy & not able to secure a job there & in worst case scenario returning back to India...so eventually you spent in dollars & earn in rupees...& Even thinking deeper will the product designer role still be relevant after 10 years down the line

Yeah, in my case, I don't even want to work abroad so it makes even less sense. But yeah, whenever I've asked seniors if I should do masters or not, even they can't tell if it's needed or not so just confused me even more.

Background : I am a product designer with a few  years of experience in the industry. I already have a B.Des degree and I'm seeing that the standard route for people with my background is to do a masters in design. 

From my time working I've seen that people who are good designers irrespective of whether they have some sort of design degree or not are doing well. Which makes me unsure whether I should take up masters or not. This might be a very biased take since the sample size is very small.

All in all, I wanted to understand if a masters degree holds a high valuation like in other industries.

Im at a very weird place where im confused where a master’s degree would actually help me in my career or no since it will take up a lot of time and money.

Do designers with a master’s degree in design get preference over a person just with a just a b.des degree?

I always planned on doing masters after completing two years of experience. But with the current market scenario, is it worth going to USA to pursue masters in HCI ? I’m stressed about not getting h1b visa and also having to pay the loan if the market continues to be bad. 
Also, would love to know if anyone has done and is practicing as a ux designer in Germany, Netherlands? What are the prospects in Europe?

I am not finding jobs and am very confused about wether to continue as an Industrial Designer since I see very less demand as of now. On the other hand UX design is very lucrative in terms of perks and package. Your thoughts would be really helpful.

I am a Product Designer at an Edtech Startup (raising 20m Series B soon) with almost a year (1) of full time experience but overall almost 3 (including internships) at some great companies.

As I am looking for a change what salary should I expect? Considering:-

- I have a design degree from a Non-IIT/Non-NID Tier 1 University (known for good engineers) [so good foundation hopefully]
- The companies I have interned at range from Japanese MNC/Conglomerate, Indian Fashion focused E-Commerce Giant, Indian Food Tech/Delivery Giant & an Indian Digital Transformation Giant.
- The average stipend I earned at these companies was around 40K/month.
- The salary I earn right now every month is between 70 - 90K
- I believe I have Got good Product focused UX knowledge. [Part of the Product team not a seperate Design Team]
- Not another Figma/Framer drooling Designer.
- Many of my peers from my alma mater are placed in Big Tech or Desi Giants owned by Foreign Giants

So what salary should I be expecting? (Keeping aside the ESOP/RSU part)
Is ~ 1.25L/month in hand is right ask?

Please suggest.

So my sibling is about to graduate with a degree in Computer Science from a T2 college in a few months and wants to now do MS in the US because of three reasons: 

1. Low levels of violence against women(Sexual Assault) [IMPORTANT!!]
2. Want to do innovative work in the US instead of working on copycat products in India
3. Ambition of living in the US long term because of free-er culture

But my parents have flat out refused to fund the education or even help her with a loan due to regressive mentality (nahi jaana baahar, 2-3 saal kaam karo aur shaadi karo chup chaap)

She has accepted a job offer for now and will make 14L/year. What are her options? Should she drop the idea of MS abroad?

What to do if your parents refused to fund your education(MS/MBA) abroad?

Two options -  
  
 1. As I read, she will making 14L, save aggressively and self fund herself to MS. Places like UoCincinati or Texas univs aren’t that costly. She might able to score a diversity scholarship/waiver as well. 
  
 2. Start looking for Germany based unis. They have minimal uni fee, she just need to maintain the living expenses.  
  
 My 2 cents - Working for 2-3 years before MS will bring more clarity and increase the RoI of investments.

Now it's becoming a rare opportunity in comparison to the developer's starting salary.

Developer getting 2x amount and sometimes 3x the amount what designers are getting.

So people who are coming to design industry from developer side of things, think again
