Signs of dark times we're about to enter

TW: IMAGE below Everything's going to shit recently. I can't help but wonder where are we heading. We celebrate reaching the other side of the moon but can't have the basics right. There's airports collapsing, bridges falling, ministers houses flooding in the capital of the nation, while the people are stuck blaming, infighting and staying divided. Our air is unbreathable, roads unusable, water not drinkable, food is no better than poison. Our education system doesn't seem to get better. Hoards of people for government jobs whose papers keep getting leaked. The amount of private jobs you could count on your fingers and the applicants are hundreds for a single role. I write this rant feeling defeated in my home, where I've been born, lived and seen everyone I love live. I fear for myself but more than that my family, my parents for whom I dream of giving the world to. At this point, I understand why people leave this country in a heartbeat.

Today, the markets have been bleeding across USA, Japan, India due to number of reasons contributing to it. War between iran- Israel, unemployment rate in USA going up, increase in interest rates in Japan which led to the worst decline of their stock markets in history. We were thinking that since now openings are coming up, situation could improve. Will the situation get worse from here in the upcoming days or is it too early to say?

Keep yourself sane. Keep your brain healthy. Avoid reels. Save yourself.

2001 was a Dot Com collapse. 2008 was a banking collapse that hit IT too. This year first it was the Tech companies and now its the Banking, Financial Sector that is getting hit, making it the worst of all recessions. And its expected to get worse with Fed likely to hike up interest rates. Its like this year we are having the worst of both 2001 and 2008.

When the market will stable , when this layoff period will go away ? Any thought 🤔

Storytime: I work at Gojek. This year on 10th March 2023, I was supposed to be laid off in their second minerva round. But got saved due to office politics. Ever since I found out, like a sane person, I've been on the lookout - but like an insane person, for whatever reason, not aggressively. Finding out that you got saved because of petty office politics, and how pointless everything is- changed the way I look at Jobs/companies. While I did wanna move, I wasn't desperate. All of them are snakes. Anyway, Since then, I've interviewed only for 3 companies. All 3 of them didn't work out. First company - After the intro call , I was told that this wasn't a good fit . No explanations given. I was quite sad on that one. First kick back from the world after learning I was to be fired. Self doubt was heavy at this point. Second company - cleared everything but they weren't making a good offer. Took 1.5 months to meet at an agreeable salary. I still wasn't happy and parted ways,sad that it didn't work out. During our negotiations, the Indian government changed some policies that hit their industry hard. This company is now just trying to minimize the impact of the new policies, currently. They were not able to offer market industry salary then and I'm sure wouldn't be able to do so now. Layoff rumours in the air. I wonder what would have happened had I given in and accepted their mediocre offer or they had given in and given me something they couldn't sustain. Third: I interviewed at MPL. I was impressed by the HR, the interview panel- great product minds to work with and grow. The salary discussed in the intro call seemed great. I cleared 3 rounds. Went and met them. However I didn't clear, post that. HR ghosted me abruptly. I kept following up. After a week they responded. Feedback wasn't constructive or detailed . It was borderline harsh. I was super sad. I thought MPL would be it. Woke up to the news of MPL layoffs today. Indian government changed GST 🤣

The US is in its late stage capitalist phase, a ship that's going to sink for the next 50 years. If you're a young person there it doesn't make sense to work as hard as your Grandpa the reward on average isn't as great. India on the other hand is poised to become a great multi-trillion $ economy. Onto something huge. We're talking like 10x growth of the economy here. Start-ups that have made it like Razorpay, Swiggy, PayTM, even Cred, if they survive will be really huge as capital in the country, liquidity and lifestyles go up over the next 50 years. Be the capitalist, take the risks, make bets, work and stack up promotions and money. Don't join an Infosys and work 70 hours there, do it for a start up of any scale you believe is going to make it. Or better yet start your own.
