Auto drivers are very rude charge unnecessarily extra and later complain Ola and Uber is taking their market. In mumbai you go by meter in Auto. So for 2KM we have to hardly pay 50 Rupees. But here in Bangalore I had to pay 160 rupees once for 2 km.

In Mumbai the meter starts as soon as you get inside an auto. It's sorted. No need to bargain. You can rest assured that the fare is fair.

Supply demand at play here in this situation. When it rains no cabs or auto like to accept rides so supply is skewed and demand increases.

Because it's the benglore # silicon valley of India 😂😂 The situation of drainage is very bad here ! No one wants to go with public transport as jams are there ! But still it's Bengaluru!

This is true for any city. I've faced a similar situation in Pune as well. It's not the city, it's SOME people that's the problem.

Local people boost about their right to get priority in Bengaluru and as a matter of fact they will exploit non Bengaluru people since you are not a not local not realising that a non Bengaluru had to come to Bangalore since local were not as good enough to get hired. And why not ? Local people are concentrate more on exploiting nonlocals where as nonlocals concentrate on making a living and go away with making money from Bengaluru. 😂. Infact locals are so ignorant that they talk about how non Bengaluru people ruined Bengaluru they think non Bengaluru people should go back without realising that what Bengaluru make Bengaluru is the non Bengaluru and who were ever able to cater the requirement of IT companies who setup their office. How else would a 5square km city spread into a 30km spread density city in just 15 years?

Opportunity cost - someone is always capitalising on someone’s need. Another thing to note - there is always someone out there willing to pay more to tend to their urgent needs - so there we are - Driver , customer and another customer maths. I however think the statement that people take advantage of other people in Bangalore is too generic. I am from a small town in northern India and have been here for over 13 years - and I have had my fair share of good, great, awesome, bad and ugly.

The three examples autos, landlord and cops are like those hyenas who can smell “urgency” from miles. The Hyenas here in Bangalore have learnt this art of taking advantage very well. I have experienced this first hand from all the three. It is sad but i think it is prevalent in major metropolitan cities. I am from Delhi and have experienced it there as well but since i am a local there i have other alternatives. Here being an outsider and with limited grasp of the language makes us easy target

It's raining heavily, which is bound to drive up fares. Supply and demand - rickshaw drivers are in high demand when it's raining and fares go up.

Most of the auto and cab driver folks are just plain lazy, they feel that most of the IT folks were just lucky and don't deserve the money that they earn. Most of the actions stem from jealousy and urge to earn quick money.

Had a different experience recently. I was trying to book a Auto from Brigade Road for a distance of 7kms. It had stopped raining just a while back but it was already 5 pm and I was not getting any auto/cab on any of the apps even after adding tips. Asked the autowallahs standing and one agreed to go for Rs350. Tried to haggle it down to Rs 200 (Namma Yatri was showing ₹128 as the max trip amount), but was unsuccessful. Decided to take the bus instead and walked till the bus stand. My wife stopped another Autowallah who said the magic wods "meter se chalenge bsss 20rs upr dedena". Took it immediately and the final fare came at ₹108 on the meter. Promptly paid him ₹130, got out and thanked him. I always thought that meters in BLR autos are for decoration purposes so was quite happy to see it in use. And also reinforced that not all Autowallahs are the same.
