90 day notice period

Hello folks,

Anyone got any tips/experience getting out of a 90 day notice clause? I am in a management role in a big 4 and am not interested in the dull work and the office politics. Planning to move out in the coming months but I have a 90 day notice which worries me. Any idea if 90 days are the norm for management roles these days? Anyone got some clever tricks/tips on how to get out in about 60-70 days?

Thanks.

I do know it’s the norm at a Big 4 unfortunately. I quit before my probation ended to escape it haha. Try having a chat w your manager? Perhaps that might help.

Ahh, ok. Thanks for the reply. Knowing my boss, she's going to make me serve the full 90 days even if I am sitting idle :) Let me prepare and land an offer, then I will talk to her and see if a buyout is possible.

Yeah so I quit without anything in hand, was fully idle during the entirety of the notice period, and it was remote thankfully, so looked for jobs in that time. Thankfully landed something

buyout is the best option! you can also consider absconding 🤣

Absconding sounds hella risky - they’ll withhold your F&F and shit :/ they don’t pay salary for the entire 3 month notice period as far as I’m aware. Maybe you were joking but just responding anyway lol

Nah I’ve known some who absconded, mostly shitty startups. Mature startups don’t do this.

Employers in India tend to forget that leaving an org is a decision, and if someone has decided then only focus should be towards smooth transition.

In USA you get off really easily, just 2 weeks of notice.

Have used 20 leaves in my last company to negotiate my notice period as it was an unstated rule and I took advantage of it as I had to join my next org.

Thanks for the idea. I definitely wouldn't mind trading leftover leaves to get out of the org faster.

Transition asap and just stop being productive. Don't join meetings, flake out on calls, redirect/delegate. Most importantly, inform clients. Chase manager for an early relieving.

With some luck on your side, perhaps your boss might let you go.
