Sales Guys Tips 🤕

So i joined this mature startup 10 months back, and my role as per JD was team leader. Till date I am doing the IC role and doing all day sales calls. I have highlighted the same to my manager and skip level, but always getting answer like it is new product, market situation is no good, we believe in lean structure etc. I am tired of doing same shit everyday. What’s your suggestion?

is your manager always breaks your nose when you request something from him?? is your colleague is getting annoyed for you being straight forward?? is your office workspace is giving you a depression?? are you feeling impotent comparing your peers?? are you being harassed by someone/somebody in your workspace?? is your work being sucked out of you everyday (disorient)?? all these are the reasons why mentally people quit their jobs. there is no company without these problems . tackle these problem like a politician finds a way to win a seat out of nowhere. be your own representative at work!!

Im a Product Manager 1yoe in a SaaS startup. I had a good experience in the first year. I got to build a product 0-1, competitor analysis, work on creating prioritization frameworks, UAT, content marketing, wireframing. However, since January the compamy started their stabilization phase, and PM's are now taking care of Sales and lead generation(Content, Ads etc.). The nail in the coffin is we are getting dragged to follow up renewals( Customer Success) 🤢 Im currently motivated to building something new, and it feels like we are being dragged into everything as the company does not want to hire. With no pay hike or any adfitional benefit. Please advice. Should I look for a new job?

I am PM with around 5 yrs of experience. I’m struggling to take my skill to next level. always receive feedback from management that output isn’t good, mostly that UX isn’t good. what can I do to improve my work? 1. Read books ? 2. Study successful products from outside ? 3. Listen to podcasts 4. Work with great product people? but hardly these exist 5. leave this field altogether? 6. Just have patience and keep learning everyday? Can experienced people share what has worked out well for them? or point me to some directions?

I recently started a new job. I would like to share some of the experiences I have had with my manager. I am wondering if these are red flags or if I am maybe being paranoid or thinking too much. It was quite difficult for me to get into this company and this job. The company is quite great and I was quite excited but some of the experiences I have had with my immediate manager have made me a bit apprehensive. I would like to share them and hear opinions about it. Here are some things which have happened which I have not liked so far - 1. I speak to a Senior Engineer one day and next day my manager asks me if anyone asked me to speak to him. 2. I shared an insight about a new tool which we can use on a deployment pipeline on the overall pod (under my skip manager). My manager immediately called me and started asking my status update and replied 'Discussing 1-1' in the group to prevent anyone getting visibility of the idea. 3. My manager pings me whenever I go offline and recently he asked me in a passive aggressive way, 'Please monitor your Teams status. It was away for most of today.' I now feel kind of paranoid to never get up as I feel my Teams status is being monitored.

I am currently managing a product, which has not really scaled up as expected over the last 1.5 years. Hand to heart, I can say I have given my best in terms of efforts but still the outcomes are not as expected due to many factors beyond my control. Now this has created a perception amongst senior management that my team is working very slowly and not able to build what customers want. It is very difficult to change this perception in short term I have asked for change of product portfolio multiple times but that is not getting entertained. Any suggestions if I want to stay in this company (other than the very obvious - looking for opportunities outside the organisation.)

I know Grapevine is full of young and ambitious people that either planning to get into Product or are already working as a PM. I don’t aim to discourage any of you. Moreover, if you need tips to break into Product I would be happy to help you. I personally feel that knowing what you are doing is going to doom is better than normalizing it. So I will convey my experience in simple words, how I hated every single day of it, why did I still stick around for 4 years, why product decisions are random political bullshit, why you should not let anything that happens get under your skin and affect your morale. Finally, few words for sociopathic Head of Products. Lesson #1: Go through all stages of grief at once. Accept that product culture is broken and accept that it will not get better. Finally, you can’t fix it or improve it. Lesson #2: Ratings are political bullshit. I can tell you the years I was rated worse I was probably working harder and better at my job. It just depends on the results you get in the last month before ratings and whether your DOP is vocal for you. Lesson #3: Last piece of advice: do not let your Product years lower your self esteem or sense of self worth. Also, some words for sociopathic Head of Products. F’ you.

Hello grapeviners. I was recently interviewing at a big MNC and gave 5 rounds of interviews. (4 Tech, 1 Managerial). I did fairly well in the interviews (according to me). Got rejected in the end and received no feedback... Just a generic rejection mail. How do you guys keep up with failures like these? Whenever I give interviews at a good company and perform well, I tend to imagine myself as a future employee in that company and how my life would be after joining there... and it really breaks my heart when I get rejected. This happened to me few times before as well and I still have no idea how to move on from feelings like these. Really interested to know what do you folks do in situations like these... How do you calm yourself down?

I’ve been insufferable at work since 2-3 months now. Total time at my company- 6mo 21 days. Profile - Product Management My engineering team seems to be taking no ownership and always have their brahmastra ready that it didn’t come from product’s side. QA again is so great that I have to sit and thoroughly test each release end to end. My manager- he’s quite interested in taking my career fwd as a project manager. (I am not) He’s a total asshole and is quite concerned with start dates and end dates of tasks ( mind you, I am not the one actually writing the code but somehow the dates are my responsibility). He totally micromanages and somehow keeps blaming me for each small thing. Examples: - My engg team isn’t taking ownership: “you aren’t keeping them motivated enough” - This isn’t a last minute change : “Do you attend standups? You aren’t communicating well” - The QA tested and approved it, hence we released it. : “But did you test it? “ - Here are the release notes. : “This looks too jazzy, did you copy from GPT” - Here are the release notes. : “This looks too basic, did you not copy from GPT” I could go on forever. Gust: I am quite unhappy and is causing me unnecessary stress everyday. Also I don’t feel there’s a solution possible

When I was job hunting a few months back, I told the head hunter that a couple of companies she proposed was not something I believed in, in the nicest way possible. Maybe a dick move, idk. She told me it’ll be impossible for me to find a job in this market if this was my attitude. After that, a month later, she ghosted me when I asked her if she has any leads. I spoke to a few friends and they said it’s a good thing to want to truly believe in what the company does and few told me it didn’t matter. To me it does, because I have always worked in very early startups and I see my time also as an investment. And not to mention, early stage startups are tedious to work in. You lose your motivation if you don’t feel like you’re contributing to a great extent in multiple areas. What’s your take on it? Is it alright as long as you get the money in your account?
