Week back there were posts by linkedin engineers that linkedin is hiring SDEs and anyone can as referral and today they laid off 700 people.

Like whats happening man!!! Is the company dumb or what?

(1) Reduce cost of human capital -> (2) Post better EBITDA numbers in earnings calls -> (3) Get big bonuses and sell your equity if its value is rising -> (4) Hire a lot of people again so that you can repeat this cycle again to profit

Living in India, there exists a stigma around hiring laid-off employees, a mindset that lacks the maturity to comprehend life's inevitable fluctuations. It's disheartening to observe this perspective, especially when considering the experiences of team members in the US, who faced a similar situation but managed to secure employment. This disparity in mindset may be one reason why individuals hesitate to return to India after experiencing the professional landscape in the US.  

Indian recruiters & hiring managers need to come out & change mindset about laid off engineers & managers. This is truly killing the entire ecosystem.

Hi guys, just got layedoff day before yesterday. I had joined Increff on 5 June and was layedoff after 2 months due to cost cutting. They had overhired people hoping for growth but their clients left and had runway of 5-6 months. Can you guys help me out here in finding a new job. I was working as an SDE backend. Just graduated from college l, basically a fresher. 🥲

Preqin has laid off around 40% of its workforce from India today. The company has a 2 month notice period policy but affected people don't need to serve this period. They will get 2 months salary + severence packgae which is worth 2 monhs salary, so 4 monthspay in total. 
This company had started compulsory WFH this month.

I am seeing a lot of layoff related posts everywhere from news articles to LinkedIn.. Is the Job market really that bad now? Or just the media is projecting that way? 

If it's really bad, which department you think is the most affected? How's layoffs specifically in India? Or is it layoffs in US but more hiring in India due to cost cutting? 

Are layoffs in technology/engineering dept as in for developers or some other departments? Your thoughts please..

Job Market right now in India?

It is really bad right now 
 1. Layoffs in many of the companies, irrespective of whether they're a startup or a big MnC. 
 2. Almost everyone I know of wants to switch, because of no/less appraisals from last 2 years 
 3. Bad work life balance - people thinks switching might help 
 4. Too much competition for any open position. Because of too much supply, companies are low-balling and people would accept the offer.  
  
 Recruiters ghosting is too common. Even if you've killed in your interviews and recruiters get someone who's ready to join on less pay, they'll simply ghost you.
