Are Indian corporate employees really overpaid?

Met a PM from IIT / IIM with 4 years of experience. He is working at a well know soonicorn at a salary of 17 lakhs per year . He used to draw 30 lakhs per year in his last role before we was laid off . Interesting Times ahead

After reading replies in grapevine for dystopian policies, HR policies, work culture, companies to avoid(looks like all companies should be avoided), related questions I'm kind of regretting as I took the decision to stay back in India and not pursue masters abroad to live with my parents. Given how pathetic the work culture is in almost all the startups(I'll go with 99.99%), politics and poor work life balance and living in a country where I don't get any tax benefits even after paying 30+% direct income tax, is it really worth living in this country anymore ? I'm feeling very sad, looks like I missed the opportunity to go abroad as I'm 25 now. Only my love towards my parents is holding me back since they both are around the age of 60 and I don't want to be the son who will make crores of money abroad and not be with them in case of any emergency. I'm don't want to leave them alone. Looks like there is no hope working in India. 😔

Am I being overpaid? I am a backend engineer with 7 years of experience. I've been rejected by multiple organizations during salary discussions. They mentioned they can't provide such a high salary. I’m a final year student based out of India, and am currently doing the last month of my internship at a SF based startup. As the only DevOps engineer, and being quite skilled at at (at least according to myto YoE), I was getting paid around 2 LPA per month as a part time intern for the past 6 months. I recently got another 3 month internship offer from a foreign company, and I’m taking it since I don’t want to get stuck at remote job in India, and explore some abroad companies as well before I settle. Pay there is also quite good, but I don’t wish to take FTE there as I have to live in India only (family reasons, rural background, younger siblings and their study, etc.) Now when I finally start my job hunt in the final days of my winter internship, what should be the pay I expect from Indian / Remote companies? Considering I was getting paid a fair amount as mentioned above even in a part time role. Or was I overpaid and I should keep my expectations low or equal to it in a Full Time Role?

So basically the title. European countries like are flirting with the idea of 4 days work week and here at India we have people like Narayan Murthy who is suggesting youngsters to work for 70 hours per week and many people are supporting him including one politician from Congress. I mean why is it so? It makes my blood boil and it's motivating me everyday to leave this country and get a job at some European nation.

Hiring for a bunch of roles for an early stage startup. Salaries of people who have been laid off is through the roof 2-3 years experience asking for 30-40l and while we chose not to judge the experience and spoke to a few of them, most of them are not even worth half of the pay. Many are jobless since last 2-3 months and none of them are willing to take a paycut of even 5-6L and are willing to stay jobless ( probably have a ton of savings ) Market correction is necessary. How many of you actually only work 9-5? Do you get paid for overtime? Is Indian corporate culture disconnected from the 40-hour workweek belief?
