Biggest regret of not getting in IIT

When I was in 12th and gave my exams for JEE Mains I got -

Physics : 1 Chemistry : 2 Maths : -3

Basically:0 but it was intentional. I got 99% on my 12th and 10th board. Qualified for NERIST Entrance Exam. Got everything but wanted to prove a point, “One piece of paper won’t decide my future.”

Guess I was wrong. Now no investors wants to invest in my ideas because they look for pedigree.

My friends got into IIT Bombay, Delhi and Kharagpur. But unfortunately for them they couldn’t get a job????

My friend who got into IITK got the highest marks in our state batch of 2018. Now his doing coaching. My IITB friend didn’t get an interview nor placement. Lastly my IITD friend is back at studying for MTech.

Don’t understand what is happening. I can build but investors don’t invest. They can work but got no job.

No investor will get even though if you have great idea

Investor only get once you show something out of it

Everyone will have ideas , but the point is how many have implemented it.

If you have idea and no technical knowledge do manually atleast start some customer base and gather some ground report collect all the things make a PPT and a demo video and try for investors and apply also government will give some investment once you post these above things and if your idea qualified

Stop trying to make sense of others and their lives. Focus on your product, start planning monetization.

If you can actually compete with Google and perplexity, you won't need investors. In fact investors will beg you to take investment and it will be a bad idea to take it.

Forget pitching, start building a world class product first.

What if some foreign return does the same thing who pursued his masters from top 10-20 world's University, will they have an advantage or investors will willing to do it ???

Investors need to see some outlier reason to invest in you / your business.

  • Can be a pedigree
  • Can be traction in your business.

And yes, the market is down. Even IITians aren't able to raise / get great jobs

Even I did make the same mistake. However, you can try for incubators.

Maybe keep a close eye on Angel investors/angel networks or do try to get a connect through someone who got funded through them.
Tier 1 VC investment is a great signalling factor, no doubt but better to get a foot in the door if it is investment that you need as a priority. Do sound out/DM folks in Grapevine too, who work in VC if you haven't yet.

What was your IITJEE rank?

If not IITJEE, share your rank or percentage from any major exam or competition..

Personally, I sucked at IITJEE and my rank was 112,700. I am ashamed to talk about this to anyone normally but here I can share it.
