Guys, need a quick descriptive help here. I applied to the position of senior profile for which in 1st round only they gave asked youe CTC expectation and at what CTC you will not go beyond. I shared my CTC and after 3 days I got an mail stating that my candidature got rejected because they will not be able to pay that CTC which is market standard that i asked. Now, i want to work in that company because profile is good and will help to draft my career and i am ready to decrease my CTC expectation also. 

My problem is how do I portray over mail and what pointers i should be adding to convey them to consider my profile for next round of interview as i am ready to work at lesser CTC (asked 3x of my curent CTC when lastly was discussed). 

Note: HR didn't asked my my current CTC . She directly asked expectations and at what CTC you will not go beyond.

Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out for advice on a challenging situation I'm facing regarding my employment bond. Here's what happened:

During my college placement, I was selected by a company for a developer role with a promised CTC of 3 LPA. Two days later, I was called to their office where the HR informed me that the CTC was "up to" 3 LPA, not exactly 3 LPA. Despite this, I accepted the offer and signed a bond for two years (including a six-month internship), also providing a cheque for 1 Lac as a security deposit.

Now, as my internship is nearing completion, there's a final review meeting scheduled where they will restructure the CTC. During my internship, I learned from existing employees that the company is notorious for poor salary growth and minimal hikes. I feel trapped by the "up to" scheme and am worried about my future with this company.

I'm seeking advice on how to navigate this situation and, if possible, save my 1 Lac cheque. Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.

A little background info before I get into the details:

I have left appraisals at the table (twice) to pursue better opportunities which offered me a varied job role. I am now stuck at the same organization for two years and my appraisal conversation has been going on for 7 months. Ridiculous, I know. This company has no growth prospects. I have not grown in the last two years in any aspect. Regret the day I left the appraisal & job promotion at my previous organization to join this company.

Naturally, I've started my job search and have landed a few offers but no one seems to offer me more than 30% and I need to correct my salary. 

How's the best way to ensure I get a package that can offer over 30%? I need atleast 45-50% to correct my salary.

So I applied on Coindcx website for an open role about a week ago.

Their HR “manager” called me after CV review and asked general questions like past role, why looking for a change etc. Then came the CTC part. He said my expected CTC is out of their budget as their budget is like 10% increment from my current role but he will try to stretch to 15%, the next day I called and said since I need to move city as well if you can get upto 20, I am good. His response “lets start the process and then we will see”

Next day Round 1. The person join the called and was without camera, even though my camera was on (I always thought its common courtesy to have camera on). From her way of talking it looked she was not prepared or afraid to take interview.

There was no introduction, no hello, we straight away went to interview. She said she will ask 1 DSA question, 1 SQL question then some theory. 

I solved the DSA question, she asked me to add few things I did, now her reaction to this was (I am not able to understand how your code works so I am not sure it will give output).

Then we went to SQL question, her question had incorrect values and I had to point it out to her, I solved that as well with some assumptions as I forgot some syntax. She then forgot the actual output and said your output is incorrect then I showed this is what you asked so she was like okay

Then abruptly we ended the interview when she said please ask any questions which I asked around work, even that she was not answering correctly. It was like either she was not interested or she was afraid.

Within hours I got rejection mail as well.

So either because of CTC they did a formal interview (which  I am like you can say you are out of budget), or if your interviewer is not good please get it fixed.

One of the worst interview experience with CoinDCX

I had a similar experience with them a couple of years ago except it was a panel interview with 3 interviewers.  
  
 Nobody had their cameras turned on. They asked 2 DSA questions which I solved with correct output. One of the panel (the loudest one) didn't correctly know the amortised time complexity of the second question and I had to explain the maths and calculations from ground up. Then they abruptly ended the interview (no time for questions) and I got a rejection mail later. 
  
 I've never applied to them and will never respond to their recruiter messages again.

Recruiters always ask for your current compensation which is technically 'confidential'

It's unfair for you to disclose your compensation without getting something in return.

Let's CHANGE the tone of these conversations.

I always ask for their budget before I disclose mine. Enough people do this and it'll become the norm and gives you a fighting chance to safeguard against lowballing. 

Objection handling:
1. "Our budget is flexible depending on the role and experience" - counter - what role are you considering me for? What's the range for that role? - if they still deny that's bullshit, all companies even startups have a ceiling they've at least thought of
2. "Our hikes are fixed at 20-30%" - run. Or if you care about the co. try talking about market standards and fair pay
3. If they're being unreasonable and not giving any info, you say your compensation is confidential / not comfortable sharing it at this stage

Expected CTC - 1.2x Glassdoor/ambition box for business roles. Tech has levels.fyi. 
If they try to haggle at this stage itself, say you'd like to focus on the job fit and the opportunity and talk about compensation later which you believe would be open to discussion for the right candidate.

First company shutdown it's operation and gave work to current company. Now new company took some of the employees from old company. I got selected in that. And I joined given that I didn't had other offer. 

But now after 1 month this company doesn't feel good. 

Desperately wanting to change the company as work is bad (although working on same work which I used to do, tech is very old, VB. Net) but not feeling enough prepared. And the current time is horrible. 

My company has 90 Days notice period. What to do? Recruiter on this spot reject direct after hearing 90 Days.

 Also wanted to change tech stack. And how much salary should I target now given the market condition? Some recruiter even straight away said you are already getting paid high.

Recruiter: Will call you asking basic details, without knowing anything about the job description and team involved. When you ask any questions, they are always coming back with information, sometimes they don't too

Actual project team: more often than not, in need and if they like you they will communicate very clearly that we want you. When asked about benefits etc general response or always HR will connect.


HR: comes during negotiation time, will not anything about the role, will come with sole purpose of saving some bucks on CTC. More often than not, they will be the reason a candidate withdraws from process, or negotiation doesn't work, even though the actual team might be okay with negotiation.

This is my experience, HR is giving such a vague offer which looks good on paper but on hand it's nothing in terms of growth and pay increase. Same old CTC vs gross salary shenanigans. When negotiating the HR thinks I'm not worth it and asks for proofs of every deduction from current employer.
This is such a stark difference from the Actual team who interviewed me and were very good and open.

I have 8 years of IT experience out of which , 2.5 in azure. I got a call from Capegemni HR , saying there's an azure opening, asked for my current and expected CTC. I said the current is 7 LPA and expected is 20 LPA. It's a hybrid role with 3 days working from the office. She said it is not possible, Max they can give is 10-13. I am in Kerala,and have a baby under 1. I have to relocate if I get it. I don't think it is fair salary.

Is it ok if we don't tell when they're asking for our current salary based on which they will give max 100% if we perform exceptionally in the interview.

Or how can I deal this?

Revealed current CTC and got bad offer

I am posting this here cause this has happened to me more than once and want to know if this happened to anyone else?

I work in a relatively (heavy emphasis on relative) niche analytics role and I got a call from a hiring agency for an opportunity in blore. I have everything they are looking for in the JD and the recruiter from this agency wanted me to send me my resume urgently to present it to the company as well. And then comes the topic of current ctc. 

I am grossly underpaid by my current firm, one of the key reasons for me seeking out. Once she heard my pay she says “they are paying xxx for this role and your pay is too less, let me see if I can find a junior role that fits your pay”. I was furious and told her that my experience and expertise should be considered and pay is not an indication of my suitability.

She mumbled something and said she will come back and now she is ghosting me.

If the hiring agencies are gatekeeping on basis of my current pay, I am doomed.

Did anyone go through something like this? Any advice?


PS: I checked the company’s career page to apply by myself but they did not post this role on their page. There is no way for me to cut out the middleman here.

Why are HR professionals paid so low? With around 1.8 years of experience in HR and a current CTC of 4 LPA, I'm surprised that the companies I'm applying to are not offering even a 10% hike. I have given interviews and cleared them.
I got a call from HR asking for payslips and another offer details.

They said they will get back with offer.

How to go about here? If they come with a lower offer than what i asked, how much liberty i have to ask further.
Does HR will come with 2-3 various levels of offer and then try to negotiate with me.

Any help or insights would be helpful in how HR comes with offer details.
My interviews were pretty good and i think they like me.

How does salary negotiation before offer work

Don't share payslips yet if possible. Do it after finalising your offer details. 
  
 What information have you shared? Current compensation? Expected range? Do you have any other offers in hand? 
  
 The game that follows now is that of leverage of information vs offer expiry timelines. 
  
 They will share an offer. You can call it "interesting" but don't share more details on if you like it or not - you need to "think more" before you can share your opinion. Say that you need to discuss it with your well-wishers and also evaluate compared to other opportunities. 
  
 Get back to them on email and call the offer "strong" (if it is really good) or "interesting" (for all other cases). Suggest some improvements to the offer that would make it more compelling for you. Don't guarantee that you will accept the offer if these things are provided (unless it's your last day till offer expiry). Keep negotiating with everyone that is interesting and keep dropping the non-interesting ones. 
  
 Also, don't call the negotiation discussions a "negotiation" - that word sounds negative. Call it "discussing offer details" or something. 
  
 FYI: All of these tips are from the highly popular negotiation blog posts by Haseeb. They've worked well for me.
