1. You’re at School and Grades are everything.
2. You get to college and your GPA is everything.
3. You get to your first job and your pay is everything.
4. You get to the end of the year and Performance Review is everything.

So, essentially at every moment in your life, you’re judged by a number. 

My heart goes out to all those who failed at being better at this. But, I really cry for my brethren who succeeded at this hustle, for the person you’ve become.

On my way back from the office and it started thundering and drizzling. Got me real excited and I didn’t mind getting a little drenched on my bike. 

But the excitement to see the first proper rains was quickly outdone by the horror of Bangalore’s almost impressively bad sewage system back in action. It only gets worse, to see the first rains immediately turn to sludge and the dirty water spray around, when they hit the dirt laden streets and the traffic completely choked due to bad roads was a nightmare to drive through. 

Getting wet in the rain seemed a mistake. Idk if anything will make this city get off this doomed trajectory it’s on.

Life has become so dry and meaningless nowadays. Struggle connects us on some level. I’d love to hear your stories of struggle and how you overcame it.

Here’s my story.
I studied B.E for 7 years because of backlogs. Every year was a new batch, no friends. Extreme depression, humiliation everywhere. Isolated myself from an extremely judgmental society. 
Confidence had no meaning in my life. 
Somehow struggled and cleared all the backlogs. Studied programming and web design. Started working for free.
After 1 year, first salary was 2k per month.
Then 18k. Then 30k.
I always felt dumb because of the backlogs. Want to rectify it. So went to the US with the only admit I got. Studied my ass off. GPA 3.95. But I was broke again. Cried my eyes out multiple times because I had no money for food. Couldn’t tell this to parents.

Found a job later after many many applications. 
Happiest moment of achievement was when I bought my first 43 inch LED TV. With my own money.

Current pay: over 2L / mo.

I joined AmEx Gurgaon in 2015 in PoS Fraud Strategy as a Business Analyst. I was having a rough time at AmEx as I really wanted to pursue my passion of Mathematics in the US. I had secured an admit at Univeristy of Illinois - Urbana Champaign and UT-Austin in their MS programme and was totally checked out at work.

During my tenure at AmEx, I was mostly bored. Looking at internal tools and spreadsheets was the worst. This coupled with the fact that I was travelling to and fro between Noida and Gurgaon meant that I was commuting a solid 4 hours everyday.

In this time of mental agony, I met this charismatic young woman, she was an Analyst in the Credit Underwriting Team. I don't know what got into me and I asked her out to coffee. We went to the Starbucks in CyberHub the next morning and she was the most delightful personality ever. Sweet and elegant, she talked of her passion with vigour, from her ideals to writing poems. I left that conversation feeling uneasy though. 

She reminded me of what I wanted but also of what I was scared to lose in her. 

We continued to date for the next 6 months in a hush-hush manner to avoid any suspicion at AmEx. I had to start the process of getting my F1-visa for the US and when I told her about it she was extremely disheartened.

In my heart, I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my days with her and life without her was nothing but an empty void. She came with me to the US Consulate Office, and I don't know what got into me but I kissed her.

I knew that I wanted her more than anything else. 

Decided not to give the Visa Interview and applied to ISB with my GRE score. Got into it and ended up becoming a Management Consultant in MBB. 

We got married in 2019 and welcomed our daughter into this world in 2021. 

I wonder what life would've been living in the US. But whatever it would be, it couldn't be better than being in her arms when we come back from work. 

Have faith. Everything will turn out to be okay. Trust the process

The day was starting with a cold breeze after the soothing rains which got the temperature dipped to ~11°C. Fitness hustlers and morning people getting ready for the street walks and jogging in sweatshirts. Few also took their dogs along. 

There wasn't much of birds chirping, but found some parrots and few colourful birds when the 9 AM sun was shining with rays in between the buildings. The sky was pretty clear, notification popped up for a sunny day.

A speed breaker for weekday chores. Terrace was today's spot. 

11 AM, people were hanging their clothes to dry in the sun, a grandfather was reading his newspaper in his garden. House-help mopping floors of balcony, a couple having coffee/tea, a kid playing with his Labrador. Another one, loving with side hugs in the sun. Vegetable vendors minding their business on the streets. Women bargaining them. 

Observing the clouds move, like a curious child.
Eagles flying high in the sky, birds moving in groups. Easy to identify skyscrapers 10-15 kms away with a minimum haze. Good dose of Vitamin D for today.

Looked out for the trees, well, there are very few to identify with colourful 🌺
Glad, didn't find anyone using mobiles while consuming some Vitamin D. Plus no smoking.
