Google Pay now charging convenience fees for recharge

GPay convenience fee for recharge

Hey,

I just did a jio prepaid recharge of 749 on GPay and was charged 3 rupees convenience fee. I did not know that GPay charges convenience fee, So I just wanted to let everyone know.

GPay convenience fee for recharge

I have done some testing and it looks like the convenience fees are like this:

For recharge amounts of 1 to 100, there is no convenience fee,

For recharge of 101 to 200 it's 1 rupee convenience fee,

For 201 to 300 it's 2 rupees,

and for 301 and above, the maximum convenience fee is 3 rupees.

Earlier shopkeepers would do a 50rs recharge in 50rs, they made profits by completing the target and getting commission. Shops were profitable. Now these companies have burned down all the vc money and couldn't make profit and now have to charge commission from customers now. Earlier commission was from network companies to shopkeepers. Now its from cux to platform providers. Shopkeer out , network companies out. Cux in.

Its weird when payment firms charge convenience charge because ideally as distributors they are entitled to receive something from the operator.

They charge source of money, not source of goods or services since they need money and not services/goods.

Q for the Techies

When recharging on the telecom provider's app, I use GPay. Once I select the pay option on the app, it directly takes me to the amount screen of GPay to pay - I don't have to put in my GPay PIN to open the app.

This should not be happen...
