I am an IIT grad, with 8 years of work experience. I come from a small town in India. I have been an extremely hard working (and #ambitiouschap) always. I would get married within next 2 years. I earn decent money. The only reason I want to pursue an MBA from an Ivy league is that it's my dream. Tried 2 GMAT attempts for regular MBA a few years ago, but couldn't even score 700 (anxiety issue before the exam - twice!)
My objective from MBA is not a career acceleration, role-pivots, or entrepreneurship etc. (HBS, Wharton, Stanford - these schools give me goosebumps somehow). I just to wish to add a tag to my profile, that's it. Can anyone relate to what I am trying to say here please?

Now, the dilema is that professionally and financially im doing okay but I'm not sure about how things are in India currently. I don't want my fam to be subject to the life i had(we can debate this later on)

Should I go for an MBA?

Hi folks, I’m a Sr. PM at a good startup currently getting 40 LPA. My total experience is 6 years (2 years PM). One of the CXOs suggested to me (over a casual conversation) to consider doing an MBA from ISB or Ivy League colleges if I can afford a career break. 

I know that post-MBA might not see a huge jump in CTC but from a long-term perspective do you think it would be worth it? Will it open more avenues for growth?

Thinking of doing an MBA degree
Main factor worrying me is I'm making a good amount of money in my current job (20lpa, 2yoe), but I want to do an MBA to gain a broader perspective/get a business outlook/make friends😔/personal growth. 
I'm kinda hell bent on going for it, but also worried about how to extract time for prep etc as I would not want to go below the top 6-7 colleges. 

Want to know others experience who went through a similar situation. Is it worth it ?

People who did and MBA having an already high salary (17-20LPA+), how did it go for you ?

Old IIT, random branch, 8 years out of college, 45LPA fixed + 10 variable + 20L RSUs in a generalist project lead role with a consulting services firm. Confused. Had been wanting to startup at some point hence didn't go for a M7 MBA.  Not sure about starting up now. ISB, Insead and maybe a long shot at an M7 also on the table. Can stay at this firm and be partner equivalent in 4-5 years but it ain't MBB so max I see myself is at 80L fixed in 5 years and it plateauing.
How'd you go about thinking this through?

I am confused if I am the right candidate for the program. I don't have a solid reason for pursuing this course. 

My thoughts:
1. How will this degree help me in my career growth?
2. am I already earning more than what usually is earned by a passing out MBA grad?
3. I will get married in the next 2 years, and I want to get done with any additional degree before that.
4. What if my career growth hit some blockers just because I didn't invest some time and lacs into this degree.

About Me:
I have 4 and half years of experience as a Data Engineer. My academics are phenomenal (10 CGPA in 10th, 78% in 12th(99 percentile State Board) and Gold medalist in Btech with CGPA of 9.2 from new IIIT.

Experience: ZS, Flipkart, Grammerly 
Current role: SDE2 / L2, will be promoted in next 6 months

Salary: Cash component: 35LPA+RSU( projected to reach 40LPA + more RSU) in next 6 months)


Pls, this post is not to brag. I am asking for genuine advice on why one with such a portfolio should join an MBA degree program. My motive is just lying in how it will increases my earning potential along with career growth.

Lately, I've been contemplating pursuing an MBA, but I haven't initiated my GMAT preparation yet. I'm wondering if it's a wise move to transition my career in this direction. I've heard that individuals with a tech background who graduate from IIM/ISB might need to begin their careers anew, typically with a salary in the range of 27 to 28 lakhs. Can you confirm if this is accurate?

Should I do an MBA from top tier IIM college? I know it will not be beneficial in short term but in long term is it a good idea?

Btech Cgpa - 9.415 (till 6th sem)

I am thinking of giving CAT next year but in dilemma that should I go for work experience or not . As iims do prefer people having work experience. 

And what percentile should I aim for getting admission in old IIMs.

I (M22) currently have about 8 months (2023) of SWE experience working at a European tech company making roughly 12Lpa. I am planning of going for a MBA in the next 2-3 years but only if I get into a top b-school. I am highly ambitious and hope to climb the MANGA corporate ladder to a C suite/exec level position in the next 15-20 years. Will an MBA make sense for my goals and what sort of roles do tech giants usually hire for from top iims/isb and the likes? 
Is going for a MBA going to fast track my career or should I just grind the swe -> sdm -> director path with just a B.Tech degree ( Tier-2 private university)

MBA for career advancement?

I have “hustled” (whatever that means, most times I feel like a fraud) my way to a 60 LPA (no ESOPs and non engineering background) after 5 years. I’ve also realised that the job market has become pretty flat and degrees (ofc there are exceptions) don’t really matter once you have a foot in the door in the “ecosystem”.

However, I feel considerably lost (more existential maybe) and have been contemplating an MBA abroad for quite sometime. BUT, I don’t want to take money from my parents and I don’t want to exhaust my savings on one degree. 

I’m not thoroughly “excited” about networking or just partying for two years and don’t feel very strongly about moving abroad either. 

I think a foreign MBA just feels like an escape at the moment. However, I don’t know how it’ll solve anything to be honest, since I’ll still have to deal with the larger questions around purpose, what I stand for etc etc.

Any thoughts?

Does ragging of such scale where the seniors time and again disrespect the juniors and humiliate them really happens at top B-Schools( i m talking about IIM A,B,C,L,K,I, FMS, XLRI etc) l.

I am from one of an old IIT and haven't faced any ragging or harrasment from seniors over here apart from the freshers party where the seniors themselves told that if you are not comfortable then you can leave. Not one incident after that. Instead it has been a total opposite scenario and the seniors are too helpful here in a variety of ways. I have friends in IIT Bombay, Kanpur and Delhi and they too told me the same thing.

I was very surprised and astonished when I found out that kids age 18 years old aren't engaged in ragging at IITs but adults age 23 years+ doing their MBAs are doing the same at IIMs.

PS: I plan to pursue an MBA from an IIM in the future but such incidents are a big turn off for me hence I wanted to know the reality.

MBA Profile Evaluation and PM Career

So I left my job in Jan 2024 after 3.4 yoe.
I wish to switch my profile to HR, and therefore, I wish to pursue an MBA degree.
Now the problem starts:
my family is pressuring me that if I'm unable to convert any good colleges, how will I justify my gap year so I should take up a job.
I don't wish to take up a job since I want to focus entirely on CAT prep.
They are also pressurising me that if I'm unable to convert, then I will have to start from scratch in HR with a low salary and they wish to see me married within next 2-3 years so why would a nice guy marry a girl who is earning 25k-30k a month.
So I'm really stressed out. 
What should I do?
Take up a job and then prepare for entrance, or ignore them and just focus on prep, like what's the solution?
Everyone is talking about the problem, what's the solution?
