Work backwards from the key metrics - like funnels of the flows you are looking at, volume trends of key trends etc. 
  
 Use mixpanel support/documentation pages extensively to understand with example what all you can look at. Like how to build custom events, parameters on mp, using comparison events in the funnel steps etc. 
  
 Other than that ensure proper instrumentation to everything that needs to be measured or known, read substack by the data person Crystal Wadja for how to measure/good practices etc. Scourge through reforge articles also on data for PMs

Starting my first PM role!

I’ve worked across many orgs, one of them with 2mn plus MAU had entire product analytics pipeline on redis. Every event manually configured. Every property manually configured. You know what that resulted into?  An analytics team of 60 people. Most of them writing dumb queries for business and product teams. Why? Because events were configured in a weird way. It also resulted in higher turnaround time to do any analysis. 

Then I switched. Joined a startup. They were using mixpanel. And I’ll kid you not, I always thought analytics is not for me. Instantly fell in love with mixpanel. And started spending lot of time on it. 

This is the difference. And you’ve to spend to get quality.

Product Management Advice

I started working as a junior product manager last year. Unfortunately within a few months the company ran out of funds and I quit before they shut operations / laid people off as I could sense it was going to happen. I joined another startup and it's been about 6-7 months but in the hunt for revenue and profitability my product isn't important for the company. Not enough developers/ senior PMs/ designers/ is assigned to the product and it is consumed elsewhere even though the overall performance of the product, metrics, have improved. It's hard to work as a junior PM without guidance.

I am in 2 minds now if I quit how will other employers perceive it? Will it seem like a frequent switch? And any suggestions for switching or applying anywhere where product guidance is good, not looking for a hike/ but a good company, good product, same pay scale and good guidance.

1. Read books ?

3. Listen to podcasts 
4. Work with great product people? but hardly these exist 
5. leave this field altogether?
6. Just have patience and keep learning everyday?

How to up your game as a Product Manager?

I’ve worked for different companies and my experience varied a lot. 

One my previous employer didn’t want to invest in mixpanel / product analytics tool and we ended up configuring each event manually and passed it on to redshift. Due to this we just had too much of dependency on analytics. 

Compare to it now I only take there help when I want to get some correlation or major exploration done.

I've been working as an APM at a startup for about 6 months. I kinda fell into the role. Was a developer previously for about a year. So in total about 2 years of industry experience. As an APM, I've not gotten a lot of opportunities to work on hands on PM stuff. My line manager isn't a great mentor and despite having conversations with him to give me more product related tasks, my situation has not improved. 

What should I do? Will I be able to land another APM or a PM job elsewhere?

I'm in my first product management job and have been here for a while (3+ years). Altho it's been great past few years, I'm beginning to feel a lack of excitement towards it. 
 I'm also a bit unsure of how to plan my future career trajectory. More & more PM jobs now require domain experience. I don't know what domains should I switch to or which domains would even accept me. Such thoughts make me feel paralysed from acting on my current situation and really bring down my confidence. 
I feel like talking to someone who has seen a few cycles in the industry can help me navigate this situation better. I can't talk to my office seniors about it coz I don't want them to get a hint that I'm planning to switch. And since it's my first job there isn't anyone else left to take advise from either.

The issue is, while he's helpful and experienced in this field, he sometimes talks to me in a very condescending way which kinda hurts me. Hey folks,
I'm wondering what kinda role I should pursue next after product management. 
I'm done with this role, works vary from company to company and team to team. It's tough to make people understand the difference between pre-PMF products & mature products, and how the metrics impact vary across the spectrum. 
And this completely changes the equation of your appraisal or your promotion as well. 
I don't see myself working in the same kind of role after 5 years.
So I'm wondering what kinda role I should look out for?
My general interests are more analytics & strategy centric. What do you guys think??

Hi everyone, I'll cut right to the chase
I have had 6 months of experience as a product intern and I'm trying to get into an APM role for the past 3 months.
I have not been able to get any interviews or calls for an APM role. The only calls I get are for product intern roles.
Is 6 months of experience not enough to move into a full time role??? I've done my engineering, completed my MBA from a tier 1 institute yet I'm not being considered as a qualified candidate.
The past 3 months have really taken a toll on my mental health and everyday feels like a burden. 

I would really appreciate if you all could guide me on what to do because I have no clue where I'm going.

Advice from Product Leaders

Hey folks, 

So I work as a product intern and have an offer to join full time as an Associate Product Manager at a Fintech B2B startup upon graduating. 

So cutting to the chase, 

Recently I have been under tremendous pressure to deliver a product. Our organisation does not have any senior product manager to help guide and I report directly to the CEO. I have been given far too much responsibility and an extremely sophisticated product has been put in my care. 

This product requires a lot of technical expertise and we do not have that kind of resources. I have put this point across to my boss multiple times over the past few months and he always says we will do it. 

He goes and promises clients that this product exists they even did a soft launch of this product when we literally have not built more than a few screens. 

Our company has a high employee turnover and people keep quitting left right and centre due to the Co-founders toxic attitude. 

Recently I have been feeling very anxious starting work in the mornings. Most days go late into the nights because the Co founders work in a different time zone. 


So the dilemma here is this, I feel the urge to quit this job but at the same time I am afraid that another opportunity will not present itself soon. They also pay me pretty well compared to other product intern roles out there. 

I know a lot of people are out there fighting for a product intern or an APM role and here I have it and am considering quitting. 

Please feel free to ask me any follow up questions and forgive me if it sounded more like a rant. 

I am open to hearing your advise.

I want to understand if this is common for folks and is there a way to tackle it.

I have recently moved my career from Talent Acquisition to Product Management Internally in my organization. My New Manager has also very recently joined the team. I see him barely investing time in understanding the skillset I hold and whenever there's a time of taking some responsibilities he will give it to others. I have been doing some operational work for the past 1 month now, majorly with excel sheets and coordination. 

I want to start working as a Product Management Professional and not as an operational Guy !

Open to suggestions on how to take this up !

Hey, so to introduce myself. I recently graduated from a new IIM and got into a product manager role at a bank where I have the responsibility of launching a new product. I always thought that I would end up in a sales role and did my internship as a market research intern as well. Now, I have no idea how to proceed with my current role. I have no tech background with a bachelor's in science and MBA in marketing & strategy. 

Would like to know if I should stay in this role(tbh I like the tasks) or should I change to sales because a fresher with no tech background would always be at a disadvantage 
And if I choose to stay, how do I go on from here? What skills/certifications/steps should I take.
