I just saw they were hiring for 6 month tech interns. As a student, I don't really understand the org's mindset when they're hiring interns for a team and firing FTEs in another.

FTEs are expensive. They will pay you survival wage and make you do the work

First, they had a layoff.
Some people in the leadership quit.
Middle management people are quitting.
They shut down majority of the dark stores.
They are pivoting their business.
They are out of runway.

dunzo laid off ~20-25% of it's workforce today, calling it that they overhired, pretty pre-planned.
And coincidentally some dept. heads are on leave for the next few days, unavailable to answer their team.
I wonder why these people even take up the leadership roles if they can't step forward to answer.

It was a pretty tense situation at the office. 

Nearly all engineering managers were laid off, most of the SDE-2s who were not the core engineering team and a lot of SDE-1s who had just joined this year. Even the interns were let go today.

Pretty scary scenario today. Just putting out an update. Apparently it was done to please the investors for the next series of funding. Can't say for sure though.
