Looking for Mutual funds to invest in

I have started earning a good salary in the last six months and now that i have an emergency fund created, i want to invest monthly some money into Mutual funds. What are ways to identify a good mutual fund? Do suggest for long term(~5-6 yrs), short term (~1.5-2 yrs). Also i have started a ppf fund.
