MBA pays hire only if you do it from the top colleges. FMCG cos offer a CTC of upwards of 30 plus along with other MBB cos. Don’t think they would be getting recalibrated.

If you have done an MBA from the top tier (ABC) college then it is possible to get a post mba (1/2 yrs after MBA) base of 45L-50L if you have some decent pre-mba experience (3+ yrs). But, after 45L-50L, the next growth will depend on your functional expertise + people management skills with the former being the core.

Hi Guys,
I  am working as a software developer in Oracle( btech from old IIT) . Its been 2 years and I now want to switch to management consulting (preferable in MBB) to experience it so want to give MBA.

1. I did some research but I want to gain some information on the salary aspect of it. I heard that the salaries are not that high they would probably be in the same range that I am getting now. BUT, I want to know in the long run do consultants get more hikes compared to tech roles? 

2. I heard the wlb is pretty bad so is there some resource that I can study to know if thats the right suit for me since its a big risk I’ll be taking moving on to a different field. There are some good exit opportunities also I believe after MBB can someone tell more about it.

Would really appreciate some answers on this. Its on my head for a long time. Cheers!

How do non tech compete with this skewed demand-supply chain?

Tech and Non tech Pay Partiality is something no one talks about

Engineers deserve their pay.  
  
 1 - The code that engineers write are assets of a company. The code might keep running and serving customers for years after a engineer has probably even left the company.  
 On the other hand, the work that most non-tech folks do are not assets, but an operational expense.  
  
 Companies don't derive benefit of a non-tech even beyond the same month the work is performed.  
  
 The difference is the same as painting your house vs brushing your teeth. You don't paint your house everyday but you do brush your teeth. Painting here is a long lasting asset, adds to the value of the house. Brushing is necessary work but with ultimately perishable benefits.  
  
 2 - Code that engineers write provide non-linear benefits. A team of 30 in Zerodha were able to serve 3-5x more customers in the pandemic. This same scalability does not apply to non-tech majdoori. Business has scaled? Hire more heads. Not with code. 
  
  
 Obviously above does not apply to senior managerial folks who build and architect the organisation, set the cultures, create processes. The impact of their work is long lasting and non-linear. But work of junior business non-tech folks - well, they're getting paid as much as the value they create. Low leverage, low pay. Coding is very high leverage. 
  
 Before you jump on me, I worked for sales in years. Then shifted to product. Above two points are a reality whether you like it or not.

For anyone graduating from a tier 1 college in undergrad and have a job in Software engineering / Customer Success/ Product success/ Product consulting  , is a tier 1 MBA worth it if you want to pivot to Product Management. 
 
Is it true that all the top PM roles are taken by people who have a tier 1 MBA?

1. They are the most overpaid people in India.
2. They have no work life balance and they don't even know what it means.
3. They think they are the best at everything, but they can't do anything right.
4. They are always complaining about their job and how much they hate it.
5. They are never satisfied with their salary or benefits package.
6. They are always looking for new jobs because they think they deserve better than what they currently have.

PM as seen by Engineers: 
 1. Doesn't do anything other than throwing random jargons 
 2. Can't explain what they do other than say how they are not Program manager or something else

I know it's an apple-to-orange comparison but which of these two, according to you, leads to a better career*?

By a better career I mean a role that pays better, has better chances to increase that pay, better opportunities to have an impact, better WLB, better peer group, etc

*Let's assume we're talking about a respectable level of competency in either of these fields (a good engineer vs a good MBA)

As a business graduate, it's often humbling to see the tech salaries based on my YOE (4-7 bracket) with the people at the top end earning 50-60+ lpa. (Fixed)

Assuming i want to optimise for Money - What can I do as a business graduate to do well similar to tech folks?

Should I go for MBA in top 10 b schools india like IIMs, XLRI, SPJAIN, etc

So a little background about myself. 

I graduated in 2023 from a tier college and managed to get an off-campus job in an investment bank as an SDE. 

My current salary is 24LPA.

Would it be beneficial for me to do MBA from the above mentioned colleges

Like would the placements there be better than what I have currently? 

Also if I can save enough money in 2 years would a MBA in US in a top 20 uni be better than MBA in IIM? 

I will be going for further studies sometime in 2025 or 2026.

My main goal is to improve my salary and build a network. 

I have also managed my own dev agency and did freelance projects in the past 4 years. 

If anybody has gone through the same please let me know your experience.

A network is always multiplex. Traffic needs to flow in all directions. 
  
 You can't just receive.  You also have to give.  For you to give,  people need to know you. For people to know you well, you need to have shared experiences.  Thats what determines your worth in the network. 
  
 That's why you need to go through the grind. 
  
 Otherwise distance learning MBAs would be the riot!

5 years back, I was fortunate enough to get into IISc to study computer science. I also had a choice to study at a prestigious business school in India. I decided to go to IISc as I wanted to work in tech post my masters degree. Back then I thought, if I still wanted to go to business school, I would take it up around 5-6 years post masters. 
Now, it seems like AI is taking over all fields especially non-tech strategy type roles where human input can be replaced with effective code+AI in cost effective ways. Functional managerial roles are being filled with experienced engineers who have a great depth of experience building products for their companies. Where will the MBAs fit in? 
With AI advancing at a break neck speed many more roles will be replaced with AI. Also, the MBA curriculum seems a bit stale given the speed our world is advancing. Need some advice.
