3. Currently here. However, might have to switch within a year because career growth is v slow at my current org 😔

Hi folks, are multiple job switches considered a red flag by MBA programs, especially those in the US? And say ISB in India? There are perfectly legitimate and imo valid reasons for said job switches.

Me: APM with almost 2 years of experience looking to do an MBA to fast track my career.

Post-MBA roles:
- Product Management
- Strategy Roles
- Program/Project Management
- General Management
- Other similar roles

Long term goal: To stay in India; fine with working 2-3 years abroad.

Query 1: Considering an average profile with 9/8/8 in high school/intermediate/college, tier-1 undergrad and 2 years work-ex at a start-up. Do I have a chance to bag an MBA admit from the following with little scholarship:

- LBS
- Insead
- HEC Paris
- Oxford
- Cambridge
- SDA Bocconi
- NUS Singapore
- IESE
- ISB

I'm targeting 1 year programs only for cost purposes, hence the US is out of the picture. Feel free to suggest good 1 yr US programs

Query 2: How much GMAT is required for my profile to get into these schools?

Query 3: Are 2 year IIM Programs more advisable for me and should I leave abroad colleges altogether. At the maximum, I can't wait more than 3 years of work-ex at the time of applying due to personal reasons.

 Q1 - If your long term goal is to be in India, prefer institutions within india. Reason - You won’t be able to build network, an imp component of any MBA program. I know someone who went Dublin and struggling even to get references back home. Adding A/B/C will help  
  
 Q2 - Target 720, you will land at a better place. GMAT is just a barrier, not the deciding criteria. 
  
 Q3- 2 years would be good considering your constraints and long term goals. If you can extend 1 more year, you’ll be eligible for IIMs 1 yr MBAs.  
  
 Overall - It’s my strong opinion that if you are targeting foreign MBAs, value derivation will happen only if you plan to stay, work abroad for few years. Financial burdens will be less plus you will something worthwhile to show. See the privilege of “foreign-returned” is slowly reducing in india as global roles are getting created here as well.

Hey- I’m a CS fresher from an NIT and ended up joining a company whose culture doesn’t sit with me. 

I’ve just joined the company and have no clue when to move- need experience and there’s a recession. 

Also, I’ll be doing an MBA (looking at ISB) in three years so is it fine if I switch or should I stay (not preferred but open)?

These job switch questions were already asked in first and second round as well and even by the HR. I think if everyone was convinced by my reasons then why the hell would I get rejected in the final round? If this was the problem then I wouldn't have worked hard for all the rounds . They should have rejected me in the first round itself if that was the only reason they wanted to reject me. Plus I asked for a CTC of 27 LPA. I have 5 yrs of experience. BCG HR said she doesn't have that budget. I laughed in my mind. How can the HR lie on the face even when they know that there are other companies ready to offer me more than even 27. They are like unfortunately we don't have the budget. After 3 days she called me again saying we will match your expectations. I don't understand why you would irritate a candidate by raising their hopes and then reject them. I think MBBs are overhyped. The leadership sucked. If BCG can't pay me 25-30 lpa then I think they have lost their game big time.

Have you guys interviewed at MBB companies and got rejected in the fourth round? Just because you had multiple switches? I recently interviewed at BCG and everything went well until the director saw I gave a valid reason for each switch.

Learning And Development

I am working as data analyst in healthcare sector with 6 years of exp. However my payscale is as low as 8LPA even after switching the companies. I dont know whats wrong in healthcare corporate industry where they just dont want to spend money on employees but have revenues in billions just like any other IT giants, i see people in banglore having ~80LPA and here i am struggling to achieve 8LPA even after 6yrs with multiple awards and recognition from clients and having certification trainings completed. Please suggest.

How do i need to do to increase my payscale?

Specifically a question to all the t1 tech clg grads (mainly software engineers) earning 1l+ pm out of clg with a lot of scope for growth. Post mba avg salary is 1.5l per month. 

I can understand ppl desperate for a career change and non tech ppl who are underpaid and don't really have ab option but it baffles me why well paid folks would shell out 30lakhs kr take the burden of loan just to learn how to appear smarter than you actually are instead of investing it for a meagre salary increase that can be achieved by job switches.

I'd love to  hear any insights about ppl who've already been in the space. Why u did, salary PRE post sector etc

Why the heck do people do an MBA?

I can share, I was working abroad post my T1 engineering. So you can imagine it must be > 1L.  
  
 Like all those confused 20+ engineers, I asked one of my skip levels that how should one plan the career path. He gave me a simple framework, “Look at your boss or bosses boss. If you are ok living that life, you’re on the right path else time to think more”.  
  
 I got my answers, maybe try finding yours rather than seeking majority “votes” :)

Engineering grad. Transitioned into marketing right out of college. ~2 years of experience. 

Started out on a shit pay, currently underpaid but getting good exposure and learning a lot. 

This was a conscious decision as I am focused on learning, growth and personal development. 

Feedback is, I have made massive professional progress in the last 1.5 years and the company too (at my request) is giving me more agency to explore and diversify my skill set.  

This means; mainly more responsibilities, a few operations related decisions & tasks and a few sales calls and client presentations.  

I work at a very small startup and I feel, despite having the opportunity to learn here, the environment or mostly the pay is too shit/low. 

I am already a star employee here and I feel it would be a good time to switch, to be amongst a group wherein I can get more challenges and opportunities. Of course, a higher pay would be wonderful as well. 

While, job switching is an option, I am also thinking about doing an MBA. 

I feel if I can build upon this momentum and get into a good college - it would negate years of grind that I would have to put (in the current scenario). 

I really would like you good people to analyse my situation and help me out, please.

Hi everyone,
I'm working in a pre-sales role at IBM. I completed MBA in 2023 and I feel that IBM is bit slow and bureacratic. I was hoping I would be able to switch to a startup. But I have a few questions -

1. Do startups pay well for MBA based roles too or is it only the dev team that get paid well? My comp at IBM is 25 LPA and I would like to be within similar range.

2. How do you find primarily about jobs in startups? Is LinkedIn the best source or are there other more effective methods to know about openings?

3. Do startups hire MBA folks with ~1 years of experience in MNCs or do they primarily look for fresh out of college people only? Is profile switch possible (i.e. from sales to finance/operations/supply chain etc)

business/finance major, graduated in 2019, been working for 3yrs and 10 months, have doubled my salary since I started my career in 2019.
Exploring options- masters in India only as abroad is expensive and doesn't make any sense in today's market. 
Have seen the fintech space closely boom as a 20y.o fresh out of college, and since then I've worked across sme financing, education financing, b2b credit card payments and now again back to education financing for a traditional nbfc. 
My roles have varied from strategy and operations, to investor relations/nbfc treasury to product management (current role)
I wanted some advice/opinion from the community whether to continue on my career path or switch to masters- take a break of 18 months study from a great school and get back in the industry.
Also, if I explore the later one then apart from the isbs and IIMs of the world are there even good 1 year mba programs in india?

Hello all,
I'm a software engineer at one of the service based companies and I graduated last yr.

 Though I always knew software engineering isn't for me, I still gave it a try hoping my perspective would change when I enter the industry. Bummer! I hate it even more

What I have realised is I don't like to code or spend all day finding a solution to an error. Not to say I don't like problem solving but I simply don't like the problem solving that is required for a great software engineer.

I have been a content writer in the past and enjoyed it. I also helped a small digital marketing agency launch a campaign for a product. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of coming up with ideas that suit the tone of the brand, writing copies and much more.

I'm thinking of switching to a marketing role or anything that aligns with what I have mentioned above.  

My question to you are:

1) Is it even possible to switch without an MBA?
2) If so, What should be my approach to applying to jobs? (Kindly tell me the specific and not just -' Make a stellar resume and apply ' kind of a vague answer)
3) What other roles can I look into?

Hate My Software Engineering Job

Been 3 months that I switched from  service based to now consulting. Hard realisation, not my cup of tea. I have nightmares waking up on weekdays. The projects are a mess and it's a blame game, there is no structure to work. Should I switch? What can be good reasons? Considering I am not willing to change locations (Bangalore).

So a little background about myself. 

I graduated in 2023 from a tier college and managed to get an off-campus job in an investment bank as an SDE. 

My current salary is 24LPA.

Would it be beneficial for me to do MBA from the above mentioned colleges

Like would the placements there be better than what I have currently? 

Also if I can save enough money in 2 years would a MBA in US in a top 20 uni be better than MBA in IIM? 

I will be going for further studies sometime in 2025 or 2026.

My main goal is to improve my salary and build a network. 

I have also managed my own dev agency and did freelance projects in the past 4 years. 

If anybody has gone through the same please let me know your experience.
