Observation: People who are not good at their job are more likely to indulge in office politics
I joined a new org a few months ago, from my observation folks who struggle at their job are the ones who form a group of similar people and indulge in gossip, they are always scheming and always on extra alert mode if anyone is listening to their conversation. All this seems to be childish while observing from a distance. I think if you are unhappy with your job you should prepare and switch. I'm curious if other people have had similar observations

They indulge in office politics because they are unable to switch and stuck there for a foreseeable future.

I agree 100%. They are too cowardly to act on their situation
Can’t escape politics if u want an edge in an environment involving people. Something as simple as prioritizing A’s task over B even though B’s task was more urgent can be viewed as political. Basically after a point u cannot thrive based on just skills so we cannot make this generalization but probability is higher of what u mention
Office Politics is the death of any great company. The only way you avoid that is by having a culture which incentivises collective good over individual brilliance.
Unfortunately, if you do that then smart people with spikes will go elsewhere because they cannot utilise their max potential.
So, it's a hard balance to strike.
