Opinions on regions in India for work

Have lived and worked in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bangalore.

I liked NCR the best because of good infrastructure and living standards. Lots to do on weekends, many places to visit and events to try. Metro connectivity is great.

Mumbai is second best. Good mix of people, many things to do on weekends. Expensive af though, hard to survive unless you earn very well.

Bangalore is the worst of the three for me. Cheaper than Mumbai but worse infra than Mumbai, also very racist. Only redeeming factor is the mix of people that come from outside, otherwise not much to do on weekends.

I would personally like to work in Pune for a while. Some friends and family are there, they are very happy with it.

In my adult life Worked / Studied in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, NCR, Bangalore & Chennai (& NYC + SFO, but not relevant).

In my book, Chennai was the best experience - cheap to live in, brilliant and varied food options and loads of stuff to do. It's not for everyone though - the invisible barriers with people are both real and imagined. Hustle is near absent and it's a city to be contented in. I still love the city. (I'm not from Chennai.)

Quality of Life / Ease of Living and availability of whatever you want is highest in Mumbai - if you have the money. Money is key to unlocking Mumbai. My #1 city if you want to hustle and get big. The grind is real and its mega-rewarding. People are by far the best. It is a welcoming accommodating and accepting city.

Pune and Hyderabad are easy going - would prefer Pune over Hyd. Limited options in both, so hustle will only take you so far. Small cities have easier social climes. Pune has a strong student vibe, so loads to do.

Bangalore is the second worst - the city is unliveable and has a big challenge with basic civics - transportation, waste management, water, electricity. If you are in tech - you have no choice but to hustle in Bangalore for the sheer number of choices you'll have to further your career. Great till you are 35!

NCR is by far the worst. Infrastructure is excellent but general day to day civic behaviour is a massive challenge. Pollution is off the charts for half the year. Wouldn't stay there for 5x the money.

Ncr - best Bangalore - worst

Have stayed in Mumbai, Bangalore, Noida and Jaipur.

Found jaipur to be absolutely best with best of both world where you can get good food delivered at 3am but also dont have a nightmare of a traffic jam at 7pm. Summers can be tough though if you an outdoor person.

Mumbai is the second best, honestly its the best if you make alot of money. Nothing comes close in terms of experience.

I found Bangalore to be quite shitty except for weather. Ded night life, obnoxious wannabe tech bros, crazy traffic and being a north Indian didn't find food as charming.

Noida was absolutely the worst, had one of my colleagues tyres stolen from his parked car at 9pm. Scary and rude people. Might be very good if you are bachelor from that region but its hell if you have a family.

Mumbai - Best. That's where I learned my work ethic. I was mentored by great ppl at the start of my career. People are extremely helpful. Every body has a story. Finish work at 5,30 and leave.

Bangalore (current) - Till now good. I find Kannadigas to be quite reasonable. However I will need to learn the language to integrate. Also chose to settle here by booking an apartment here.

Pune - worst work culture. Traffic is horrrible , govt is not only corrupt but also extremely incompetent. People are actually nice ( as against some stereotypes) it has the most "outdoorsy" . Went on a lot of treks - Pune is a horrible city but its surroundings are just gold
