Hi everyone, I'm a software engineer with 2 years of experience. I've worked on building mobile apps and have some good experience with Python too.

For 2024 spring semester, I will be moving to the US for my masters. Currently, I'm serving notice period in the company, and I have around 4 months before I start my studies.

I'm trying to decide whether to take up a contract role or focus on improving my skills and contributing to open source projects. I want to choose the option that would be best for my career. Any suggestions?

I am a software engineer with 11 months of experience. I have no interest in testing field and wanted to work in development roles from the start but my org forced me to work as an integration tester. Now I am planning to upskill and jump.
I have great interest in cloud field and believe that it is an emerging field, but I am told that AI/Gen AI is also very good field to go in.
Although l don't have any particular interest in AI and always thought that it is not easy to get good paying AI related jobs for beginners like me, I am ready to pursue, if told otherwise.
Please give me some advice/guidance as to which field I should choose as a fresher that has good learning and future scope and pays good.
Any advice/guidance is appreciated 🙂.

I've done my Btech in EC from NIT. Worked for 2Y as a dev in IT Services co. Then I did my MBA from one of the old IIMs. 
Got placed as a "Consultant" in one IT services co, where JD said the role is client facing and business centric. Have been working here for close to 2Y. Basically I'm part of an Agile project team, as another Dev/QA resource. I basically do QA for project releases and occasional SQL scripting. Tried internally to switch to a Project/BA role but this experience is hindering me. Outside it's even worse as I don't even get shortlisted.
I believe I have good skills to excel in Product/BA/Project roles. But not getting them as I don't have any prior experience. My confidence is very low now and my career seems to go nowhere.

The pay is also worse, 21.6LPA currently ( of which 17.6 is fixed). I'm not complaining and this money is a lot for most people. But it's not even close to what my juniors after 2 batches earn. 

The only upside in my job is no pressure and can work remotely most days.

What should I do ?
Shall I learn AI/ML and move to an Individual Contributor role ? How to get shortlisted for these after prep?

Any advice or leads would be helpful, TIA.

I feel that software engineering has less to do big in future compared to Ai/ML. Need your thoughts on what are my possibilities and pros cons on choosing different paths.

1. Stick to software engineer, will get promoted in some time and i can utilise some skills developed during this year and past internship. 

For next two paths, i will need to study as I don't know much about Ai/ML. Please suggest resources and way if you thing these could be good.

2. Switch teams in Google to some Ai/ML team.

3. Switch firm to some startup on Ai and can learn more things there. If this, then are companies out there how can will consider my this experience, i would want more pay than what i am earning as of now.

With AI improving we see it is quite capable of writing decent codes, how can someone new to tech decide on what to pick up? Frontend or Backend or both. Nowadays they say Full stack developers are in demand but shouldn't one be good at at least one thing and have knowledge about other things? How to prioritise what to learn. There are just so many things that I'm a bit confused as to what to learn and focus on. I'd like to seek advice from a future perspective, and any predictions on how the tech industry might shape up.

1. Google Trends Newsletter - Giving weekly or monthly newsletter on trending topics according to the categories by scrapping data from google trends because there is no API available. I've seen some micro saas around this earning.
2. LLM aggregator - Aggregator means I am creating a single API for the most of the LLMs avaialble in the market and you have to just change the parameter instead of handling all by yourself. We will take care of versions and everything hassles.
3. Synthetic Data generator with the format provided through AI

Other ideas I am thinking around - Notion Plugin, Github Plugins, Slack Integrations

Which Side hustle should I work upon? I want to work on something interesting and create side project as well.

I'm a 3rd year student looking for internship opportunities in December. I'm looking for potential full stack roles. I tend to work on scalable backend stuff and on the frontend side, I've worked on decent projects (mostly integrating ml models with a frontend). 

The thing is, I'm confused right now. I feel like it's better to start working in a startup as I don't have practical industry experience.
