Reporting manager in the US
Hi folks, I'm looking forward to an engg role where the team is distributed in 2 to 3 countries. Both my Reporting Manager and Sr. EM sit in the US and are of Chinese origin. Rest 3 to 4 Devs are in Bangalore and rest in other South East Asian country. Work and tech wise it's pretty good. Interesting product with great tech to work with. WLB is good. WFO is 3 days a week. Comp is also good. I'm supposed to have standup/product meetings starting mostly from 9 or 10 am for timezone overlap with manager 1:1 scheduled once every week and wrap up the day by 5 or 6 pm. Should I accept the role or reject it?
What’s the other option you’ve?
Green flags in new offer - WLB, Comp, product/tech
Red flags - Manager in a different time zone, 6PM wraps up might not be sustainable.
If 3-4 devs in luru, why they need 3 days WFO, it’s not about logistics but mindset.
At the moment I don't have any other option/offer. I can request to consider me for other team. 3 days WFO coz it's a company policy. It's a well-known mid size south-east asian startup. I'm bothered abt the collaboration thing on reporting managers in the US and the tech team split across different 2 countries/timezone. My concern is on the lines of Collaboration, WLB stretch and Performance/ Appraisals assessments.
I don’t think asking for team change at this point would be easy as budget allocations need to change. Try having follow up call with HM, try asking him questions on charter allocations and how the new role will contribute to it. Understand those details and we can discuss more details. Been in a similar situation before.

Seems like a dream. But beware of company tactics for URA. Be also very cautious about split teams, I’ve heard that very soon Amazon is coming up with a policy to manage entire team under one L6 manager to be in the same location. In that case your little arrangement won’t work.
Company isn't Amazon. Also what's URA? What concerns do you see or have experienced with the split teams?
