So, last night I resigned from my job. I messaged my CTO that I wouldn't be able to work anymore. It was a startup with fewer than 15 employees. I joined in March after getting laid off from another company. 

I was so desperate to get a job at that time, which led me to take this job. I know I shouldn't have resigned considering the job market situation, but the workplace was so toxic that it was unbearable. Late-night calls, one-day deadlines, and no weekends. So now I'm back in the job market. Let's see what happens.

Initially things were good , but from the last few months The workplace turned toxic and all the nasty things started happening around me.
The burn out was deteriorating mental and physical health, so i lost my patience and resigned.

Lets discuss!!! I will go first -

I quit my last organisation (a famous UPI company) in 2020 because, they still are in old technology. No cloud computing, no kubernates, no terraform. Their entire baremetal infra are in 2 DCs (Mumbai and Bangalore). Leadership ideas are outdated. I was very much bored and looking for a change.

Why did you resign?

Amount of effort i put and the salary i got was not proportional. 14 hrs to get 30k salary as a fresher. I had understood that I deserve better - thus i moved to get better pay and better wlb (which I got in swiggy)

I used to work in a start up in Bangalore, they overhired in 2022 and overpaid the freshers, more than the experienced engineers were getting paid.
To fix this put 30% of workforce on pip, laid off 20% I was one of them. 2 months later, they did open layoffs, did it again in 2 months, and one of my friends there heard the founders cracking a laugh that even the investors wouldn't have expected us to do this so fast.

I joined another company, they lost the client I was hired for, and few more clients, I was told they will have to do layoffs and my name is in the list. So they asked me to resign and I refused by saying we'll consider a last working day, if I get an offer I'll resign otherwise anyway I'll have to be laid off and they agreed. This happened one month after I had joined this company ( also a startup ).


So, being laid off once was already a big enough punch of reality, with an education loan on my head.
I joined another company and got laid off again. Tough shit.


I ended up getting an offer before my lwd.
I am not from any IIT, I am not an exceptional engineer. I am very bad interviews, my resume usually doesn't get shortlisted.

Sheer volume of effort I put made the impact on me getting a job.
Right now I am the best job of my career, with a better management.


Trying to say, it's a tough time. But you'll get through it.

So I left my job 2 months ago, the work culture and CTO was very very toxic, couldn’t handle it.

So I get offer from a startup, nice start up, good work culture, good learning. I joined this startup 15 days back. Now I got an offer from a established mid size company whose pay is 35-40% higher, it’s a substantial amount so I signed their offer letter. 

Now I wanna leave my current startup but I dont wanna burn bridges while leaving, I have a doubt that if things dont go well with the new offer, cause I left without serving notice period from the toxic one, so I have this paranoia that something might go wrong with the onboarding for the new offer. I dont wanna leave such that my current startup doesn’t even consider me for rejoining. 

I want a solid excuse for resigning, such that even if after 1 week I want to return to A, they would consider me! I am saying this because I worked my ass off for 3 months to get a job and I got a good start up, nowadays it’s hard to find decent workplace, don’t wanna end up with nothing if something goes wrong with the new one! 

HELP!! I was thinking about some family emergency so can’t continue, Any other solid reasons???

I'm typing this out as a way of collecting my thoughts and feeling a bit normal to take myself through the day. Context: I have been working with a small b2b IT firm for the last 1.5 years, and resigned yesterday. This was my first job straight out of MBA and it has sucked the soul out of me to say the least. The notice period is 3 months and I am really unsure how will I survive it considering that I'm already completely drained. 

I do not want to list out the reasons of how this place has been toxic for me because I also carry a lot of self doubt if it was really the toxicity of the place or my own incapability to handle the work. I do not have any offer in hand, and haven't started a job search either. Just wanted to put this out there to see if people here in the community have been in a similar situation in their professional lives and how did they figure out the uncertainty, was it a good decision for them in retrospect and if they have any tips for me to deal with this better, with less anxiety.

First of all congratulations! You're out of that hell hole how and you can now recover and realign.  
  
 Second - You'll be okay. Anxiety tricks you into thinking the worst possible thing will happen to you. It convinces you that it's the only possible outcome.  
  
 I'd say the first couple of days - just be. Do what you want. Decide that in the first week you'll consciously do nothing job related - the one you left and the one you should find. You'll need this time to feel like yourself again. Do things that bring you calm and joy. Nothing to big, could be as simple as a walk or making your favourite kind of sandwich.  
  
 After a week - do the following things : 
 1. List out every single thing you did at this job  
 2. Use this info to update the CV - it'll take multiple iterations. Send it to people for feedback, ask them to be candid, use chatgpt whenever relevant  
 3. Make a list of companies you want to work with  
 4. Visit their portal and other job portals 
 5. Find relevant jobs  
 6. Find people in your circle who can refer you. If you do not know any reach out to people on LinkedIn. Send request to multiple people to have a big top of the funnel  
 7. Simultaneously write down questions that you might be asked in an interview 
 8. Meet people you like  
 9. Do some kind of work out 
 10. Apply to jobs with referal 
 11. Repeat  
  
 Remember - you'll be okay.

Has anyone here with Tech work experience (India) (not from MAANG or any reputed companies, or tier 1 colleges ) taken a career break for personal reasons ? Not talking essential leaves maternity break or something like that, but more like for well being/upskilling/travel etc, whatever it maybe. Could you share your experience ?

What was your experience like getting back to work/interview experience ?

I am considering taking one myself. I know this is normalised on Europe, but I feel in India, many people  (esp. some recruiters) find this weird and most people are even scared about taking a break.

I quit my toxic job without having another offer in hand. I was working as a PM where I gave it one year thinking that things will stabilize, but they didn't. Now I'm on the job market. I'm looking out for either of the following functions:
- PM
- Founder's office
- Growth

Need to land something quickly so I can be sane.

About me: I've 4 years of exp with 2 years in product.  I've worked with high functioning startups and I thrive in that environment. Hence, looking for a role in a similar environment.

Hi guys,
So I resigned from a unicorn recently because it was hell toxic and I was getting anxiety attacks. So I put in my papers, but the twist in the story is they curtailed my notice period. So now, I am jobless and feeling completely lost. Though interviews are in the pipeline but I didn’t get chance to prepare even during weekends due to excessive workload. Now, I got rejected in multiple companies . Also, I tried rescheduling a few interviews and the HRs got pissed off and said the position has already been filled (which is not true). So, now I am preparing but still feeling like a complete loser and losing confidence.

I'll set the context here.

I was suppose to join a new organisation in the start of the year but it went on a hiring freeze immediately after my notice ended with my then employer.

I ended up accepting the first offer that came my way. It was not of my desired profile but it was better than being jobless.

Now, couple of months into the new job, I realize this is a very toxic place to be. Dormant founders only caring about money, rampant nepotism, no clear path for career growth.

It is becoming difficult to sustain at this place. I've been trying but now I can feel my mental health dwindling because of it. I dread going to office everyday. But again, in this job market, atleast I have a job.

The product role I mentioned is still on pipeline but no one knows when the freeze will end. My hiring manager and HR are pushing for my candidature (according to them) but management isn't allowing them to move ahead with new hires.

Now my question is, should I quit my job and try finding my desire role (which seem like a humongous task) or stay put and wait for a offer to come and then leave my current employer?

I'm torn. I dread going to office everyday. I don't know how much do I have it in me to keep continuing but I'm pushing my limits.

Currently working as SDE-2 at Amazon, promoted some 1 year back.

I'm totally burned out from work pressure, oncalls, layoff and performance review cycles every 3 months. Thinking of resigning without any offer by June/July.

Will this be the right decision in today's market.
I'll take some 2-3 months rest and start job hunting again, hopefully in better wlb companies.

Just want to enjoy, travel to new places and prioritise my health.
Balding and weight gain are major issues, and i don't think conditions will be improving in Amazon soon.

BUT, the job market is tough, and IDK how it will impact my career
